Portuguese Tibet , Sistelo 😀
Sunday morning I woke up early, I don't really know why but I wasn't sleepy, I noticed that everyone at home was already awake, as usual we went to the bakery and as it was Sunday we brought the typical "roca" it's a kind of baguette bread but in a size bigger and thicker, it was around 9 am and the weather was already quite hot, that's when the idea came up to go visit somewhere, I saw recently that one of the 7 wonders of portugal was around 1:50 and by car where I live, and that's how the idea of visiting Sistelo came up. Even without getting there, I was already captivated by the natural beauty of the place.
As I live in a very flat city, we don't have much opportunity to enjoy nature except in the parks.
The green mountains and stone terraces conquered me. I had seen photos before, but the beauty of the landscape was probably even more impressive.
I got in the car with my family and off I went to explore our new destination, before taking a short drive across the Ponte da Barca to visit an old friend who has an FM radio called BarcaFm.
In fact, it would be fine on the road, if it weren't for this mostly done on a national road where the limits are 90km per hour.
conversation starts a conversation kiss here kiss there already leaves the boat around 11am arriving there very close to lunch. I was referred to a restaurant in the region that, in addition to the food being typically from there, the cows are produced in the same land.
(Forget everything you can imagine, the smell and taste of the steak is something wonderful)
I opted for a steak from the typical cows in the region that are fed on natural pasture. The steak was juicy and full of flavor. I accompanied it with a fresh salad and homemade chips, all served in a local restaurant with an incredible view of the mountains.
After lunch I decided to start exploring the village, although small we have a lot to enjoy.
What fascinated me the most were the terraces, and it's no coincidence that they call it Portuguese Tibet, the tractors themselves are much smaller so that they can pass through there to cultivate the land.
The views are breathtaking.
and as I couldn't help but do so, the photos were part of my entire journey to show you
I visited the Igreja de Santa Maria, a 17th-century church with a baroque-style altar. I was impressed by the richness of detail in the decor and spent some time admiring the paintings and sculptures. in addition to all the grandiose structure on the outside, there is also a land in the middle of the village full of granaries, restored fountains and a castle turned into a restaurant.
Sistelo had a count and hence the castle, it is also possible to see the tomb where he was buried, very well esteemed by the way, it is noted that the people have a lot of love for their land and its traditions.
Sistelo is also a great place for those who enjoy walking and hiking. There are several signposted routes that allow visitors to explore the natural beauty of the area. I took a short hike to the top of one of the mountains for a panoramic view of the landscape. It was a challenging hike, but it was worth every step. but I'll leave it for a next post because there's still a lot to tell, thanks for watching
