Hello again, fellow Freewriters and Hiveans!

This is my entry to the Writing Prompt by @mariannewest for 13 February 2026, Freewriters Community Daily Writing Prompt Day 3013: not a real captain.

When the passengers and the crew realized that the boat had started tilting, havoc broke loose.

People were running up and down all over the place, shouting out loud and calling the names of other people.

The members of the crew tried to do their best to stay calm and offer help and instructions to the yelling crowd of passengers.

All of them were desperately seeking one person to take orders from, that is the captain.

Unfortunately for them, the captain was nowhere to be seen.

Then, a passenger came close and told them:

“If you’re looking for the captain, I know where he is. I watched him as he put on a life jacket and abandoned ship about fifteen minuted ago.”

The crew members were left speechless.

“I don’t believe you. The captain would never do that!”, the second mate said angrily.

“Oh, you’d better believe me, because he is not a real captain. He’s just a coward!”, the passenger answered, and everyone looked at each other in disbelief...
