This medieval fortress is a lesson of history in itself.

Belgrade, in which this fortified city is located, on the banks of two great rivers, is positioned on the route used by the Roman legions in their campaigns to Asia Minor and Africa, and for millennia it was a place where various peoples and armies stayed. From the Romans, Byzantines, Ottomans, Austro-Hungarians. Everyone demolished it a little, built it a little...
There are many secrets in this fortress, still undiscovered tunnels that stretch like labyrinths deep under the upper city.
If I ever visit the underground the Kalmendan fortresses, it will be such an interesting story 🙂

I think, what really matters is that there is peace there now.
There is peace in the fortress, but mass protests against the corrupt government have been going on throughout Serbia for the last four months.
But I'm sure that whatever happens, this fortress will outlive us and all our governments that we change in the coming centuries 😃
