A picture of the ilex aquifolium (holly) plant

Holly is a symbol of Christmas, and since there are 71 more days to go until Christmas Day, I thought it would be a good idea to take a picture of this evergreen plant.

Aquifolius literally means: “having prickly leaves”, which perfectly describes the pointed leaves of holly.

The other part of its name, i.e. ilex, is the Latin word for “holm oak”.

I like nature, and all plants, in general, but evergreen (otherwise called “deciduous”) trees are among my most favorite, because they are green all year round, and I consider them symbols of health, and longevity; they can survive in almost all weather conditions.
