Mindanao State University has its own Fish Sanctuary and Hatcheries at the place. Fir today's blog, I would like to share our night activity at the school when we decided to help harvesting the shrimps cultured by the school. I was very excited to do the harvesting together with my classmates. The school hatcheries is located near at the shoreline and they also built more big fish tanks just for hatching eggs of shrimps and fish.

I am a fishery student and this is one of the job We always do just like examining the fishes, shrimps and also other wild life that can be found at the sea water.

7 PM, when the shrimp harvesting was already started and as we arrived at the place, we've seen the group of people started to load the shrimps in an empty baskets. Everyone was very busy harvesting the shrimps and I was very amazed of the activities. This shrimps will be transported to other parts of the place just like Iligan, Marawi and Initao. There are lots of shrimps harvested and according to my research, this kind of shrimps is classified as, Penius Monudon, a large shrimps that found in the ocean.

The loaded shrimps will be place to the container van and transported to far away places. This kind of sea animals is also known as the exotic food and it is very expensive in restaurants and eateries. The baskets filled with shrimps was put in the cooler with ice or what we called, chilling so that the products or shrimps will not be spoiled during the travel.

The chilling goes like this, first the big chunks of ice will placed in the big empty containers. Next, we add a sea water in the container were ice also put and stir gently. Once the water will cold, put the shrimps in the container for 1 hour and after that, we drained the water and the chilling shrimps will placed in an empty plastic baskets and put in a cooler box filled also with ice. We are very happy that we harvested more shrimps for this harvest season.

We also checked the fish tanks in the place, we measured and examine the water temperature using the PH water meter. Each tanks contains thousands of cultured shrimps and the total tanks in the place is 5 tanks. With the help of the caretaker in the hatchery, we easily do our jobs or works very well.

11 PM when we finished harvesting the shrimps and others are already transported. Some of the shrimps are already frozen in the school refrigerator in the canteen and this will be cook especially when there are visitors.

Having this kind of culture is very fun and proud, through this we can feed the people by producing this exotic food and most of all we can sustain our needs by selling the shrimps.

You took the words out of my mouth, I agree. This week there has been a surge of post dumpers and new accounts posting in ASEAN Hive, and I’ve muted half of the authors, still have hope the other half can learn to Hive in a sustainable way that benefits the community as a whole. Reading 10 posts and commenting genuinely on them for every post published is a good newbie formula.
