Got My First Chickens On The Homestead Farm- First Egg In Less Than 24 Hours
I am officially a farmer! I have my first livestock on the homestead farm. My uncle gave me these 2 egg laying hens to help get me started, and I can't be more grateful! I finally got my pen all ready for them and he brought them just before it started to violently rain for the next 24 hours. This caused my driveway to flood, but it finally all flowed to the creek, with is more of a small river today than a creek. That's what happens when you live at the base of a mountain in the Southeastern US.
Anyway, I got them all set up in their house just before the storm rolled through, and made sure they figured out their roost situation before the rain really got going. Once they figured it out, they were fine. One of them is about 3 years old and the other is just under a year. The older one is the one that laid the first egg during the storm. Like the saying 1 BTC equals 1 BTC, well, one free egg equals free breakfast! LOL.
Anyway, the rain has finally stopped, and I was able to locate some other chicken wire to help secure their pen a bit more so I am going to get it up while the sun is out. I really want to get some of that plastic garden fencing to use as a cover. I need it for some other things as well, but it seems like it would be a great way to help keep them from flying out and still be easy for me to deal with.
It's all coming together, slowly but surely. So now, I am just needing to figure out some better income so that I can get more into this farm. I am excited that the journey is really starting to get going!
Until next time...
Be cool, be real, and always abide my farmer dudes!

1 egg? Fuckin chicken better step its game up. That's 3 days for 1 omelet..
They were a bit stressed from being relocated, I was shocked to even get the one. I got another one today from the same one. So I have 2 now, lol. 😂
My uncle told me they would probably be a couple of days before I would see any.
Well that is amazing!
