Goofing Around The Green- Liftoff FPV Drone Simulator- 3D Mode Unlocked!
This is a reply video from a practice session in the Liftoff FPV drone simulator that you can get on the Steam platform. I am going to say that before you ever buy a drone, get a radio, and spend $20 on this game. You will not regret it.
Anyway, I am waiting on some new motors for one of my drones, and the weather hasn't been the best, so I figured I would get some simulator time. I just purchased a new Radiomaster Pocket and got it all set up and made a slight change to my switch setup... Instead of programming ACRO/ANGLE/HORIZON modes, I only have ACRO and 3D mode! Yeah, I have discovered 3D FPV flying, and it opens up a whole new world of things to do.
I am playing around with a hybrid approach and switching back and forth when needed. I go to 3D mode when I want to fly upside down, or when I need to pull out of a move gone bad, lol. But that's why I am trying it all out in the simulator before I decide to be stupid and program one of my drones to do this, then crash the heck out of it, lol.
Anyway, hope you enjoy the simulator footage! The song was one I had created using the Suno.com AI. Makes things quick and easy without attracting copyright bots, lol.
Until next time...
Be cool, be real, and always abide with the skies!

That's a great way to practice! Very clever of someone to come up the simulator, I'm sure the time invested will pay off for them handsomely!
Hope the weather clears up for you soon!
Weather is much better today, got a couple of packs in trying to get used to this new controller. Gimbals are way tighter than I am used to. Simulator feels one way, but the real thing is a bit different, lol.
Totally with you on the sim time. When SIMs are boring, tinywhoops indoors - though they all fly differently. Good on you for trying 3D, it looks fun as hell!
I don't have any modes other than AIR and ACRO on my RM Pocket (daily driver) but, if I try long-range again, there's a potential recovery trick by switching into Angle mode, centering pitch/roll stick while blipping the throttle. Hopefully that autolevels and then pushes the drone upwards where video signal is stronger. I might practise that. SIM would be perfect.
I like LiftOff too - it was my first sim. I use velocidrone on my mobile while travelling and Lyft too. All of them are fine!
I just programmed my switches on the Pocket in Liftoff to have one position ACRO mode and the other 3D mode, so when I am flying in the sim, I can flip back an forth between them.
No way do I have a real drone set like that right now, lol.
I’d love to try one of these fpv drones but I was told that if you don’t crash then you’re not really trying hard enough 🤣 sounds an expensive pleasure. Maybe I could borrow yours 🤣🤣
Oh yeah, that's pretty much it, lol, or so they day. My best friend owns a parts shop so yeah, he wants all his buddies to fly hard and break things, lol.
Me on the other hand, I like to think of it as if I am in the cockpit of an aircraft. Essentially you are, so when I am flying a real plane (I do have my FAA solo pilots license) I certainly do not want to crash. Well, I think about the drone the same way, lol, because you are absolutely correct in your assumption that it is an expensive hobby, lol.
For that reason, is why I suggest to start with a good controller that you will carry into a real FPV drone, and spend $20 on Liftoff. That way you know that controller and it becomes apart of your muscle memory. Then once you have some serious hours in the simulators, look into your own goggles and drone. The cool thing about Liftoff is that you can basically build your own drone. I have replicas of my drones that I practice with. Same motors, battery specs, pip rates, etc.
When you mentioned in your post “receiver” I wondered if you meant remote control. That’s awesome that you can use your remote on the simulator. Makes it much more realistic when you come to trying the real thing. I think this will be something I get into eventually
I would have to go back and read what I wrote, but I could have been wrong, I often say things back asswards, lol. The controller is the transmitter and the receiver is on the drone. If that helps clear things up.
Haha, we have “back asswardsness” in common. Could well be my mistake too 🤣
