My little homestead chicken pen which I had given the name Fort Chick got a much needed upgrade today. The netting on top of the pen is a two fold operation. It keeps the chickens from flying out, and keeps hawks and other predators from flying in. The problem though, it's only 5 feet off the ground and I am and inch shy of 6 feet tall so I have to bend down and crouch walk everytime I go into the the pen.

Well, that problem got solved today! With having my power tools back, I am able to get some actual work done. My uncle let me use an old fence post to serve as the main post to hold up the roof like a circus tent. I first got some of the same old shelving boards that my dad got at one time when my sister used to work for The GAP and got a bunch of old shelving and such when they remodeled the store. So I am using all of these that I can around the homestead so they don't just sit and rot. I cut 2 pieces in half to serve as support legs for the big post. Then dug a hole about a shoval's height into the ground and set the post. I then set the support legs the best I could as the post is round and not exactly easy to deal with. It's not exactly a pretty job, but hey, it jacked up the roof net of Fort Chick so now I can walk inside without crouching and hurting my back!

Feels good getting even just little things like this done on the homestead farm. Makes it feel like one step closer to completetion, or at least how I have invisioned things going. Since the crypto markets are not really playing nice with the bulls, and I was working when the big drop happened, I am going to sit the weekend out from trading and get some more little projects done around here!

Until next time...

Be cool, be real, and always abide my dudes!

It looks like they'll be well protected from any birds and other animals. You've gotta be careful with foxes or any animals that dig.

The chicken wire on the perimeter extends about a foot on the ground covered by dirt and pine straw.

Hence the name Fort Chick, lol. We have coyotes, bobcats, and even bears. Doubled walled with hig wire and then chicken wire.
