First Chicken House Ready To Go!
I got a chicken house for Christmas! I am excited that I am one more step closer to getting things really going on the homestead! My uncle said he has some hens already to start laying eggs that he is going to hook me up with so I can start getting eggs pretty soon! It's not a big house so I will only be able to have like 3-4 hens, depending on the size, but it's a start!
The house came in 2 boxes and took a bit to put together, but after about an hour and a half of putting things together, I got it done! It probably would have taken half the time with an extra set of hands, but hey, this is all about being self sufficient, right?
Anyway, really excited about being one step further to my farm goals!

This is our set up. 6 hens and 2 roosters.....I hate the roosters, they are the spawn of satan. But with the 6 hens, we're getting about 3-5 eggs a day, in winter...Which isn't bad at all.

Nice! Not sure what my uncle will hook me up with on the hen side of things. This is a little mobile tractor that I am going to be moving across the yard and such. I do have some fencing I have to relocate that I will be working them in at first to tear up so I can make a garden. I will be having more in the future for sure! Mom got me this little thing for christmas.
Those are pretty slick. We looked at the same kind of design. But my wife HAD to get more chickens then it could handle. We have them in the barn because it's too damn cold for them to be out in the elements lol
Chickens are pretty awesome though. Except roosters. They suck...Like I will tell EVERYONE that listens lolol
LOL, yeah, my buddy says the same thing about roosters, lol. I will probably just stick to hens for a while, lol. At least until I get the bigger setup going.
They serve a purpose I guess, to protect the girls. But they are just pricks. Even when you try to kick them away, they puff up and charge at you. I had no idea until I got into chickens this year.

Oh I grew up getting chased by those bastards, lol. They wouldn't protect much against the coyotes and such we have around here though, so I am also about to get some security lights and make sure I get that fence area up asap, lol.
