Hi Praetoria! Welcome to another edition of the Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge brought to you by The Jedo! Link to the challenge HERE.

This time around, we will talk about worksite conversions on Land and some other tips that might be helpful in continuing your Land journey!

My previous articles regarding getting started with Land can be found here: POST 1, POST 2

Let's get started!

Map of Praetoria

Reasons For Converting Worksites

Some land plots contain deposits of magical resources. These Elemental Resources will be added into the land economy in a future update. As of today, a 100% boost in harvesting Research Points is the only benefit you can get from activating these magical plots, assuming you have a Research Hut built on the worksite as you can see in our sample plot below:

In order to collect these Research Points, you will also need to consume other natural resources like Wood, Stone, and Iron, aside from the Grain requirements for land worker consumption.

This will be completely up to you and will depend on your goals, but sometimes, it isn't worth spending all other resources just to accumulate whatever resource you chose to harvest on your selected worksite.

For today's purposes, we will convert this worksite into an Ore Mine and start to collect Iron instead of Research Points.

First Steps: Power Core and Staked DEC

Purchasing A Power Core

On the Land Plot Overview Page, click on Manage, and then click on Add Core / Runi. We do not have an available Runi to use for this plot so we will just need to acquire a Power Core.

We will spend 5,000 DEC for a Power Core. Click on Buy, input the quantity of cores we want to purchase (in this case, just 1), confirm your purchase, and voila! We have a Power Core!

Let's move on to the next step.

Staking DEC

I plan on adding a single, max level Gold Foil Common worker to this plot: our trusty Venari Heatsmith!

Not only does he provide 2,000 PP, he is also a Fire Element unit. This means the Heatsmith will also provide an additional 10% Boost since he will be working in a Caldera!

For this max level card, we need to stake 10,000 DEC in the region where our land plot is located.

Go back to the Region's Production Overview and then click on the plus sign in the Dark Energy box.

image.png

Enter the amount of DEC you want to stake and then click on STAKE DEC.

You can stake more DEC if you choose to assign more workers to your land plots.

Per the land whitepaper:

The amount of DEC that is necessary to be staked in order to power the worker cards will be 10,000 (10k) per max-level card. Cards that are below max level will require less staked DEC to power in proportion to their BCX as compared to the max BCX for that type of card.

If we were to use a level 8 COMMON GF card instead, (20 BCX out of 38 BCX max) we would only need 5.2k DEC to stake it. (20 BCX / 38 BCX x 10K DEC = 5,263 DEC)

We are now ready to assign our worker to the land plot.

Assigning Workers

Going back to the worksite page, toggle on the Add Power Core switch and then click on Add Worker. I selected the Worker 3 slot just so that the worker will be placed in the middle position.

Positioning doesn't really matter. It's all about preference.

image.png

Select your preferred worker and then click Save Changes.

image.png

This can also be done via Peakmonsters. I prefer this route due to the simplicity of the interface.

image.png

Whichever method you chose, you need to confirm the transaction before changes are applied.

We are now ready to switch Worksites.

Worksite Conversion

Once you have assigned your selected workers, you can now pick a new worksite on your land plot.

Click on the Change button and hit Confirm. You will then be given options on which type of worksite you want to build.

image.png

image.png

We can choose to rebuild the worksite by using Time Crystals. In my previous tutorial regarding clearing plots, I spent these crystals to instantly clear it and get the worksite built without waiting.

Today, for purposes of this tutorial, we will wait 24 hours for the rebuild.

image.png

We can also utilize Peakmonsters in selecting which worksite we want to build.

image.png

image.png

After confirming, the rebuild will begin. Now we wait. We can choose to speed up the process by using Time Crystals at any time.

image.png

image.png

After 24 hours, we can revisit this worksite, feed the worker a bit of Grain as payment for rebuilding, and then immediately start production on harvesting Iron.

Other Land Tips

Renting Workers

You do not have to own the cards you plan on using as land workers. You can just rent them if you prefer!

If we buy the cheapest, max level, Gold Foil Chaos Legion Fire Unit (Common), it will cost us 6 USD just to match the 2,000 PP our Heatsmith is providing.

image.png

If we scour the rental market, set the sorting to PP/DEC and the filters to max level gold foils, we can see that similar PP cards can be rented for real cheap!

1 DEC per day for a 2,000PP card?

image.png

In USD terms, as already shown in the image above, it will cost about $0.001 per day.

So is it more reasonable to rent the card for that amount than to buy a card providing similar total PP straight up?

I'll let you be the judge. 😉

One downside to rentals is that the card owners can cancel this at any time and the rental can expire right around the end of the season.

The other is that you have to renew this every season to make sure you still have access to the cards you rented.

I think the extra effort is worth it, though. I, myself, rent some cards for land, too.

Non-Max Workers

We already know that the required DEC to be staked per worker depends on the number of BCX (or CC) of the card relative to its max-level BCX.

Let's look at my level 6 Cabalist below. A max-level version of this Rare, Gold Foil card would have 4,000 PP. My level 6 card, however, can provide 2,000 PP. Similar production to a max-level, Gold Foil Common from the Chaos Legion Set.

image.png

image.png

Let's disregard the elements of these cards just for explanation purposes.

If I stake the Scavo Chemist to a land plot, I will also need 10,000 DEC staked in order for the worker to function at 100%. This is similar to the Venari Heatsmith we used in the above tutorial.

If I use the level 6 Cabalist instead, (11 BCX of of 22 BCX if maxed), we will only need to stake 5,000 DEC.

Half of the Staked DEC requirement of a maxed card.
