Missed and delayed commitments!

Premises

Commitment towards the work requires higher backing of morality, discipline, and a greater intensity where one thrives to get it done. Without a commitment, the progress is short-lived and will eventually fail once we get off the track. Hence, without higher moral standards like integrity, honesty, compassion, passion, spirit, and intensity, commitment seems unachievable and merely a dream.

I have a good working experience in the corporate sector hence I have seen this closely and felt the burden. But commitment doesn't seem like a burden initially, it becomes one when our milestones are endless and we get detached from the work.

My experience

I am involved in IT projects where my main aim is to complete the modules that are allotted to me. Sometimes it is as simple as framing a website and sometimes it becomes complex when I have to think about the infrastructure and start it from scratch.

Once I started developing a website and this time I was given a task to develop a frontend using the Wix platform. Wix platform is an easy drag-and-drop platform but the tasks that I had were going beyond the capability of Wix. I have frequently contacted the support team to know how to get a thing done.

initially, it felt like a challenge to me, so many times I used to develop my solution and help it by adding to the guides of the Wix platform. This was the phase where I was actively contributing to the WIx platform. I completed my work and submitted it for the review. I received positive reviews for all my hard work on that project and received appreciation as well.

I was soon offered many other similar tasks and I took them as well. every day there was a challenge to create something and learn something. It was a good experience, however, as soon as the complexity increased it became a tough job for me to keep up the pace. I had to contact the support team frequently. Sooner, my progress was delayed and I had to catch up by working extra on weekends.

Because of delays, I felt pressure and sooner all the tasks felt like a burden to me. This was the point where I was getting detached from the work. After achieving my level best, I used to take other parts of my job carelessly. I used to ignore the small tasks like fixing a bug and only take the main big part of the project. I got bored of the same as I had exhausted my creativity in that platform and I was no more interested in doing the same again.

This is where my commitment failed day by day and one day I went to my manager and asked him to assign such projects to someone else as I might not be able to complete them on time.

Conclusion

The initial phase was the most interesting part but as soon as I gained experience, the tasks felt to me as a time-consuming chore rather than as a challenge. This is how my commitment was impacted and I eventually left the similar tasks.
