Hello there,

Sorry for the late post, I am a little sick and unable to stare at the screen, it's irritating for my eyes. Anyway, I took the medication and to cut the time, here I am staring at the screen and making this blog. We completed the preliminary part of sociology, I hope you enjoyed it more than me.

After Chapter 1, we are going to face thinkers. I will give a little intro of a few terms as mentioned in the last blog to make our reading experience smooth... operator.... smoooooooooooth operator

I forgot to put a disclaimer in my previous blogs, and a disclaimer is really important,

"During entire sociology, you may find that two terms sound similar in terms of definition, and application but believe me it is not."

Positivism

Positivism is an approach to fixating on something. As you know there are a few ways to cook your noodles. Whatever the type of noodles, you will find similar patterns in preparing them. Okay, what is 2 + 2, you can say it as 2+1+1, 1+1+1+1, 3+1, but the final answer you get by any of the above steps is 4. The important thing here is not the result but the finite number of ways to solve it.

In maths, we know methods or theorems that can give you answers. It is not subjective. For example, Pythagoras' theorem, wherever and whoever applies this theorem will get the same answer every time. Positivism is an approach to bringing theorems into the study of sociology. An attempt to derive methodologies that will give the same answer to every sociologist. Nice, isn't it?!

Non-Positivistic Approach

They believe that society is very subjective and to bind them in a fixed number of theorems is an insane way of narrowing down or ignoring the capabilities of human society. They wanted to use a subjective approach as every individual and society is unique. Certain parts will differ while comparing the two societies.

Instead of narrowing doing the thinking process, we must deal with sociological things with an open mind. An open mindset will allow them to think in many dimensions and avoid a huge impact on one's personal bias during sociological research.

Social Facts

Fact is something that remains true or correct in a given context. It is the part of the system. For example, the Sun is the star that has a great impact on every planet in this solar system. Here sun is a fact, it holds as per scientific study as well, it is the star that is impacting our lives. But at the same time this "Fact" i.e. "sun" is part of the system i.e. solar system.

Okay sorry, I know it's a bit tough but let me make it simpler. For example, praying in the church. Praying is a fact as it is common in every religion and we see the same in Christianity at the same time praying is also an important part of the religious system.
I hope now it makes sense to you. If it isn't don't read it again. I will be using this same term in upcoming blogs a few times.
