Quick Personal Update: Post-Procedure
Hey everyone,
Just wanted to post a quick follow-up to yesterday's brief note where I mentioned heading off for surgery.
Perhaps "surgery" gave the wrong impression – it wasn't anything major! It was actually an outpatient procedure called radiofrequency ablation (RFA) done on my lower spine. The goal is to target specific nerves and hopefully reduce some of the chronic nerve pain I've been dealing with. They essentially use heat generated by radio waves to interrupt the pain signals from those nerves.
Here's a peek from the procedure:
The good news is, I'm back home already and honestly feeling quite a bit better in terms of that specific nerve pain, which is fantastic. I'm definitely feeling a bit sore and bruised around the area where they worked, as expected, but that should hopefully fade over the next few days.
Overall, feeling optimistic and hoping to be back to my normal self very shortly. Thanks for the well wishes!
As always,

Addition: I just realized that picture is from the last time they did it, but it looks better than the one I took yesterday.
dude this is pretty gnarly... I don't think I'm ever going to complain about sciatica ever again.
Going on 20 years ago that I broke my back. Damn time flies...
Ouch care to explain what happened?
Sure,
Back in April of 2007, I was working as a Corrections Officer (Prison Guard) and was the 1st responder to most things as I was the 2nd officer in the segregation unit, meaning I was free to roam if I was needed. I was called to a fight, and it was quickly broken up, then about an hour later while serving food, I realized how bad it hurt, I guess adrenaline is amazing.. Turned out that I broke L5, and blew the disc above and below it out. So surgery was needed and they did a 2 level fusion of L4-L5-S1. Now, most people have the hardware removed after a bit, but my surgery was basically a failure and it never really fused properly.
Damn I wish I never break any bones. It seems that most of the times it never really recover to what it was before. I really hope the treatments work for you 👍
Wishing you the best.
