The Silver King of Spades

In the United States you are legally an adult at 18 years of age. But not truly an adult, as you have to be 21 years of age if you wish to consume alcohol, tobacco, or participate in casino gambling. Many have argued that if at 18 you can join the military and die for your country, you should be able to do the former activities, but politicians have made the rules. Even if they are absurd...

In Puerto Rico, which is a US territory, the age to engage in such activities is 18 years old. It does cost them though, as the US doesn't give them highway funds as a penalty for not making the age 21 years of age. Not that anyone in Puerto Rico really cares, I remember seeing 14 year old's walk up to a beach bar and walk away with Corona in their hands! LOL

So, where am I going with this diatribe you might ask? The title has already given it away, but I had to rant a little anyway.

A few days ago I found this really awesome silver product from the Solomon Islands which really caught my eye. It's a pure silver replica of a King of Spades playing card. It even comes in it's own card pack like real cards. As a big fan of black jack and Texas hold em it immediately called my attention. Have a look:

About the coin:

It hasn't arrived at many main silver selling outlets as of yet. I have seen it for sale for $199 on eBay and for $175 on sites internationally. They have limited mintage to 2,000, so there won't be many produced. I would love to own one of these as they are one Troy ounce of .999 silver, but the premium price is a killer. I love it, but not enough to buy it at that price. I will be shopping around in the next couple years to see if I can't get a better price to pick one up!

It is a unique product that I really would love to own, we'll see what the future brings... So if you are a fan of card games as am I this may be right up your alley! One thing I do not understand is that this is a 2025 coin (card) and it still has Queen Elizabeth II on there. I know it says as a tribute, but still... Shouldn't it be Charles? If anyone knows why please feel free to chime in! Then again I'm an American with no real interest in the royal family...

That will do it for this Wednesday's post. I honestly nearly didn't post today at all, this morning I was tired and uninspired. I forced myself to do something productive and I'm glad I did, after all, I am still playing Stake House Den which is a casino game here on Hive. No gambling involved, but your can play black jack!
