The Matrix and some great music from the 1990's!

One of the most defining movies on the late 1990's was The Matrix, released in 1999. Staring Keanu Reeves, Lawrence Fishburne, and Carrie Moss, this was one one biggest films of the year. It also launched an entirely new franchise that persists to this very day. The plot involves humanity being conquered by artificial intelligence machines that have placed humans inside of pods and use them for electricity. All the people are introduced into an artificial world of the matrix to live out programmed lives while continuing to serve as a power source.

Reeves character, Neo, is awakened and joins the fight against the mechanical overlords to free humanity. If you somehow missed this one (I'm not sure how anyone could have) it's a great movie for some sci fi entertainment. I still enjoy watching it from time to time! I may add it to my watch list again for sometime this weekend.

Since it's Friday again it's time for another edition of Nineties Friday. For those unfamiliar with it, this is an event that comes around each Friday where you can create a post to share just about anything from the 1990's. It's a lot of fun, just use the tag #ninetiesfriday and it's never a bad idea to do a shoutout to @geneeverett . He started the event and someone usually walks away with some prizes!

Since Halloween is slowly sneaking up on us, I'll start sharing some more spooky themed music in the coming weeks! Let's start right now!

Rob Zombie

This iconic hard rock singer had his starts in New York City as front man of the band White Zombie. They had a lot of success in the early 1990's and Rob decided to start doing a solo work on the side in 1996. His first solo effort was a team up with legendary rock n' roller Alice Cooper and was called "Hands of Death (Burn Baby Burn)". It was nominated for a Grammy Award and was a fun song. Here it is:

Red Hot Chili Peppers

Formed in Los Angeles, California in 1982 this band built up a following in California rather quickly. However, they struggled to break into the mainstream music scene throughout the 1980's despite producing some really good music. I saw them play live once back in 1988 as a matter of fact, they were great! They also struggled with drug addiction problems for years before finally sobering up for the 1990's. In 1991 they released Blood Sugar Sex Magik which became a best selling album making them one of the top bands around at the time. Off that album came this classic song, "Give It Away":

They even got featured on the Simpsons in 1993, when Krusty the Clown asks for some lyrics changes in the song. This is hilarious!

Pearl Jam

This band formed in 1990 in Seattle, Washington and benefited greatly as the grunge movement was spreading nationwide in the early 1990's. In 1991 they released their debut album Ten which remained in the Billboard 200 charts for five solid years making one of the most sold rock albums of all time. Off of that album came this classic song "Even Flow":

Kid Rock

Coming out the Detroit, Michigan hip hop scene starting in 1988 he initially established himself as a rapper. However, he changed up his style significantly before he had breakout success in 1998 with his album Devil Without a Cause. Two of his biggest song off the albums were "Cowboy" and this catchy song "Bawitdaba":

That will wrap up this week's Nineties Friday's post, I hope you enjoyed it! Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below. I want to say thank you to everyone for all of your support, I truly appreciate it! Have a great weekend everyone!

That movie was huge and I have seen all of the ones that followed. Is there a correlation that everything taste like chicken, haha. Some great music as always too. My favorite amongst them is the Red Hot Chillipeppers.

I've seen them all too, great movies! Chili Peppers are awesome, I agree. I hope things get a little better for you this next week, working so much and not getting paid really sucks. Door Dash at least helps bridge the gap a bit!

I think I only watch the Matrix once when I was still a teenager, and still could not really understand it. the movie was way too futuristic to me to understand at that time. And I never watch it again.

I bought the Matrix dvd before I even owned a proper DVD player. I could only play it on my computer, but I watched that thing over and over. Such a good show!

That's a great story! Your old computer did the job! It's a very well done movie and it's still fun to watch. I can't believe it's been more than 25 years already though, time sure has flown!

lol… somehow we missed the Matrix!😳
Probably due to the fact that we lived in a small mountain community in Colorado that only had one movie theater that only featured old movies!😇
Definitely put this one on a list to check out!😊

It's a fun movie, worth seeing for sure. Small towns are funny that way, I've lived in one too like that one. Fortunately they would get the new movies in after a month or so, but I usually waited until I was in a bigger city in a nice modern theater to see a movie I had been waiting to see. How times have changed, I haven't been to a movie theater in so many years I can't remember when I last went!
