Some More Fun Turning Old LEGOs Into Cash!

It's been a bit of a cool week here so far. It started off rainy, and although that's long gone it's still just isn't warming up. But I don't mind having to use a jacket every now and again, because most of the year it's beautiful here. Especially now that the fires are under control, finally! Thousands of people lost everything in those fires, so I am very grateful to still have a home.

It's been a couple weeks since I shared a LEGO post, and today feels like a LEGO day. It a more relaxing post, after all they are just toys! For those new to my post on the subject, I like to buy old sets at thrift stores or garage sales and flip them to earn some extra cash. Most of the time I strike out when I'm at store or sale, but every now and again you get lucky. Sometimes really lucky! I've found bins before that take me months to sort through, and I have a few of them sitting around still as a matter of fact...

But first I always like to share the truly valuable LEGOs that exist out there. Many are made of silver or gold, but most are just plain old plastic. Today's featured figure is just plastic, but worth a lot of money. This is a Spider Woman mini-figure that was raffled off at the San Diego Comic-Con in 2013. Only 350 were raffles off, making it an exceedingly rare item. It will only set you back at least $5,800 if not more.

Sadly I don't own one, probably because I've never gone to Comic-Con... But keep your eyes peeled if your at a thrift store, sometimes valuable items like these are accidentally donated to thrift stores. It's happened before and will surely happen again.

Now onto some of the LEGOs I've been working with the last couple of weeks.

SUV with Watercraft Set

I posted one mini-figure last time from this set assuming it was a windsurfer, I was wrong. After searching the bin more thoroughly I realized it was part of a different set altogether. This is a LEGO City set, which aren't nearly as popular as some others, but I should be able to get at least $25. Worst case scenario $20. These came out of an older bin that has already more than paid for it's purchase price, so all profit here. Not all buys are so lucky, always look for somewhat intact sets with instructions. Fortunately, it had instructions so it was and easy set to get listed!

The vehicles even have license plates, although European designed. After all LEGO is a Danish company...

And the two mini-figures both come with life jackets setting a good example for children!

Small Star Wars Score:

A few days ago I found a small bag of mini-figures at a thrift store. Most looked pretty pathetic, but there were three decent looking Snow Troopers. While not the most expensive mini-figures I can probably get $4 a piece and I paid $3 for the bag. Tiny profits pay in the end!

As for the rest of the mini-figures in the bag, they were pretty sad, but they can be used for parts in the future. Eventually I'm sure I'll run into some other Star Wars figures that may need the parts, if not I could sell them as a damaged lot worst case scenario...

These guys are not Star Wars, but LEGO Movie which aren't all that valuable. But they came from a bin that has more than paid for itself multiple times over, so these are pure profit!

Garbage Man Grant

Not expensive but I might get $5, which isn't too shabby...

These are all from the LEGO Movie, robot cops or SWAT team members. If I get $5 a piece I'd be happy! Excuse the dust, I just pulled them out of a dusty bin!

And Deputron sadly missing his hat but should pull in a few dollars. The hat would have helped! I should have used a different background for his picture since his arms are tan. But ever since I built this tan background it has been my favorite go to item. He'll need a green one for sale pictures I think.

That will just about do it for today. I hope you enjoyed seeing the LEGOs, especially the insanely high priced Spider Woman. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to leave them below. Thank you so much for all of your support, it is greatly appreciated! Have a great day everyone!

"LEGOs truly always have their charm, especially if you manage to find those rare gems like the Spider Woman. It's a great way to make some extra money, especially if you already have an eye for those figurines that are worth their weight in gold.

Finding a rare one like Spider Woman would take a lot of luck! The stuff I find makes money, but not huge amounts of money. Every now and again I get lucky and find something worth over $100!

I'll keep an eye out for those. I must have seen some old legos in thrift shops in Japan. 😀

I have occasionally bought second hand Lego minifigs at a big Book Off store in Hiroshima City Centre. I wouldn't say they were bargains as Book Off seems to be well aware of the value of the used stuff they sell. What is strange, however, is that minifigs seem to have completely disappeared from the store! They have several aisle packed to the gills with anime figurines but I have no idea why minifigs have disappeared!

I never would have guessed that was supposed to be spider woman. I like how they put facial expressions on the figures now.

LEGOs are so much better now than when we were kids! I couldn't have guessed it was Spider Woman either, but then again I've never been a comic book guy. Most of the superheroes I know from the Marvel movies, and to a lesser extent the DC ones. DC just hasn't been good in years unfortunately!

Yeah, I was never really into comics as a kid, but I have to agree that the quality with Marvel has been far better.

At least until recently, I loved the Tim Burton Batman movies. The Christian Bale one's weren't bad either. I did like the series Peacemaker starring John Cena as the world's worst superhero, it was a fun series and they're making a season 2. Oh, last night I did start watching Tulsa King, that's a really good show! Yellowstone looks like it's coming up next in the lineup!

I don't know if I can get past Stallone being in Tulsa King. I might have to give it a shot though. I liked the earlier Batman movies and the Nolan ones as well. There is definitely something darker about them that really works.

He pulls it off pretty well, over the years he's actually become a pretty good actor. Much better than the Rambo and Rocky days! lol

It doesn't rain here all that often, so I kind of enjoy it when it does. Rainy days are kind of nice in my opinion! Hopefully some rain will head your way soon!

It's crazy money, I wouldn't pay that much for a piece of plastic. If I had that kind of spare cash I would buy a couple of really nice gold coins! I don't have that kind of spare cash so I'll stick with buying the cheap LEGOs to double or triple my money!

It must be nice to be earning some nice extra money from Hive then, a great way to save some emergency money or even retirement money!

Good to hear that the rain has helped get the fires under control!🤗
The world of Lego it’s so much bigger than I ever imagined!🤗
So much that can earn pure profit is overlooked at times!😇

It would be nice if it would rain a bit more here to keep things wetter. Most of the fire problems here are from not clearing underbrush in the forests properly. The state prohibits it because it is interfering with nature... Whatever, it's common sense is what it is! Too many environmentalists who think they know better than the fire prevention people at the forest service.

Wow…… you would think they would want to clear the brush😮
Over by Leavenworth in eastern Washington, they make a point of clearing the brush every spring. They even have weekend parties where people get together with neighbors to clear brush. …..

You talked about the silver, gold and the plastic one. Now if a very rare figure is plastic rather than gold or silver, does it affect the price it should have been sold for?

0

It's all rarity based, the more rare the item is the more demand by the collectors. The most valuable LEGOs are the precious metal ones because only one to three were made. There is one figure carved from wood that was used in a movie and it's the second most valuable LEGO on earth because there's only one. Still, I would never pay $5800 for a piece of plastic! You could buy two gold coins for that amount!

I am glad ou are able to make some money on them. We should have kept all our kids legos, they might have been worth something at some point, who knows. All I know is they created some sore feet.

It's a hit and miss side hustle, most of the time I walk away empty handed. But sometimes I get lucky and hit the motherlode! I got started with my kids LEGOs he didn't want anymore, and yes they hurt like hell when you step on them. I don't miss that! lol

WoW, I'll keep my eyes peeled from now on, those 350 Spider Woman mini-figures in their original package are worth a real fortune.

I think I should start going to those conventions. haha.

Although that SUV with Watercraft Set mini-figure looks great.

I wonder if any of those Spider Woman minifigs packs were opened... Perhaps some of the recipients gave them to their kids to rip open, play with, and pull apart. If so, I hope they don't see how much they are going for now!
