Nineties Friday Kicking Off Halloween!

I hope you've all had a great week. Friday has snuck up on me again, which means it's time for another Nineties Friday. It's a weekly event that allows you to share just about anything from the decade of the 1990's. Your imagination is just about the limit. The event was started by @geneeverett and I want to thank him for starting the event and continuing to sponsor it. Each week one person who shares a 1990's post will be selected to win 6 HSBI units, three from Gene and three from myself.

To share your own 90's post just make sure to join the Nineties Friday community and post it in there. It's never a bad idea to do a shoutout @geneeverett j and using the tag #ninetiesfriday just to safe!

So let's dive on in!

The Craft

themoviedb.org

This movie is a classic Halloween staple of the the 1990's. It revolves around four misfit girls who begin to dabble in the dark arts to gain powers. Of course when one messes with the dark arts bad things are bound to follow. No exception here, and it's a lot fun to watch. My only question was how do four very good looking girls all become misfits? Oh well! If you haven't seen in it's streaming on Peacock is you subscribe or on Apple TV, you can get a free trial for seven days with Apple and cancel, but not with Peacock.

Army Of Darkness

belloflostsouls.net

This classic movie from the "Evil Dead" series by director Sam Raimi and starring Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams. At the end of Evil Dead 2 he was accidentally transported through time to the middle ages. That's where this film starts off the fun with his trusty chainsaw and shot gun. It's a great watch for any Evil Dead fan, with great humor and lots of gore, even a skeleton army. Although the special effects don't compare to today's standards it's still a fun movie to watch. Plus it was the last Evil Dead franchise starring Bruce Campbell until the series Ash vs Evil Dead appeared on Starz for three seasons a few years back. That was a fun series too! It's currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video until the end of the month. Here's the trailer:

Now for some fun music from the 1990's!

Metallica

nme.com

This band is from Los Angeles and I've shared them quite a few times, so in my older posts you can find a bio if you have forgotten who they are. Being almost Halloween I though it would be fun to listen to "Enter Sandman" from the 1991 Black album.

Oogie Boogie's Song

This one comes from "The Nightmare Before Christmas", it's almost Halloween, so why not?

Guns N' Roses

en.ozonweb.com

Now for something a little harder from a classic band, some Guns N' Roses! Since I'm on a Halloween theme I though I would use one with hell in the name. Of course the hell this one is talking about was a neighbor of Axl Rose's who accused him of assault. So he wrote a nice song about her....

Because I spent the majority of the 90's in countries that really only speak Spanish I like to throw in a couple songs from the era that were popular in the day!

Olga Tañón

wegow.com

Olga Tañón is a Grammy award winning artist from Puerto Rico. Although she started as vocalist in the 1980's it took her until her fourth album "Nuevo Senderos" (New Paths) to find international success. She had been primarily a merengue artist but incorporated more pop into her new album and it paid off. This song is a fun one off the same album called "Me Subes, Me Bajas, Me Subes"

Ricky Martin

dolcevita.ec

Long before this Puerto Rican singer was Living La Vida Loca, he was a well known actor and singer in the Latin world. He got his start with the group the boy band Menudo, but went solo in 1991. His first two albums gained him some recognition in the Latin American scene, but his third album " A Medio Vivir" gained him a following in Europe. It also began his transition in the English speaking music scene. His biggest hit off on this record was "María":

That will just about do it for this #nintetiesfriday . I hope you enjoyed some of the stuff I picked out today, these are always fun to put together! If you have any comments or questions please feel free to leave them below, and as always than you so much for all of your support. Have a great weekend everyone!

Very 90s post! I liked the Craft. I had a huge celebrity crush on Fairuza Balk.

Was she the lead? The same chick who shaves her head in Empire Records?

I think it was Debbie Mazer in empire records. Fairuza Balk played Nancy in the Craft and was the girl in The Waterboy. That was a long time ago to remember.

The protagonist was Robin Tunney, Fairuza Balk was pretty much the bad girl in this one. I think it was Robin who shaved her head in Empire Records.

She was really hot back then... All four of them were really hot in this movie though! I don't blame you, Fairuza was a very sexy woman!

The 90s were very good for Guns N' Roses with multiple albums!!😀
“Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” (Bob Dylan cover) is one of my favorites off their 1991 album Use Your Illusion I 👍

I always forget to join this initiative. I guess I'll add it to my next week bucket list so I don't forget. Great tunes you've shared.

Well, I can't stay behind, hehe, just as you met Challane, I had the opportunity with my wife to meet Olga Tañon, through some friends who are also professors at the university where I work, they know her and invited me to a very small meeting with friends, and I met her.

What you are presenting today as your musical selection is great, starting with Metallica, I can't leave aside my friends from Guns N' Roses, I say friend to call it in a closer way.

So Nostalgic, those are best of the 90s. I've seen both the Craft (young Neve Campbell) and Bruce Campbell's Army of Darkness. Metallica and GnR both great rock bands 😀

Cool, I hadn't heard of No Motif, from Oxnard, CA! That was some good punk!

Metallica was really at their finest in the Black album, it may have caused two divorces in the band and cost over a million to produce. But it paid off big time for everyone involved!
