Nineties Friday is Back With Some Great Rock N' Roll!

Wow, it's hard to believe it's already Friday! Today I'll be doing a Nineties Friday because it's been a couple of weeks, and it's a lot of fun to put together. For those unfamiliar with it, this is an event that comes around each Friday where you can create a post to share just about anything from the 1990's. It's a lot of fun, just use the tag #ninetiesfriday and it's never a bad idea to do a shoutout to @geneeverett . He started the event and someone usually walks away with some HSBI units!

Let's get started!

One of the most iconic movies on the early 1990's was Terminator 2 by James Cameron. Released in July 1991 it was one of the biggest hits of the summer. Starring the Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, and Robert Patrick this was an action packed movie. I still enjoy watching it when it happens to be on, it's great entertainment. Here's on of the original trailers:

ZZ Top

Although often considered a 70's and primarily an 80's band, they did produce some good music in the 1990's. The band formed in 1969 in Houston, Texas with Billy Gibbons on lead vocals and guitar, Frank Beard on drums, and picking up Dusty Hill on bass in 1970. This trio lasted until the 2021 death of Dusty Hill.

But in 1990 they release the album Recycler, not their best album by far, but it had a couple gems on it. One of them being "My Head's in Mississippi", here's a live performance from 2013. And just for fun, the first person who mentions what brand of soda is seen gets one HSBI unit.

Guns N' Roses

I can't share Terminator 2 without sharing the main song from the movie, it just wouldn't be right. Plus, it was a great song. Guns N' Roses was the melding together of two band, LA Guns and Hollywood Rose, in 1985 in Los Angeles, California. Their first album Appetite for Destruction in 1987 made them famous world wide and they soon became one of the top bands on the planet. In 1991 they released Use Your Illusion 1&2 and off the second comes this song, "You Could Be Mine":

Skid Row

This band was formed in 1986 in Toms River, New Jersey. An interesting factoid is that the band's guitarist Dave Sabo was teenage friends with Jon Bon Jovi and was briefly a member on his band before being replaced by Richie Sambora. But he and Jon had made an agreement that if one of them made it in the music business they would help the other out. After Bon Jovi made it big Jon kept his word and had Bon Jovi's manager secure a recording contract for Skid Row.

Their self title debut in 1989 was a huge success as was their follow up album Slave To The Grind in 1991. This song came off the latter and is called "In A Darkened Room":

The Offspring

Formed in 1984 in Garden Grove, California, not far from where I live in Orange County. It took them ten long years before they finally hit the mainstream with their album "Smash" in 1994. Although they produced some great music prior to that album. This song comes off of the album Americana in 1998 and is called "Why Don't You Get A Job?":

No Doubt

Another Orange County band, they formed in 1986 in Anaheim, California. Also not too far from where I live. They released their self titled first album in 1992 which garnered them a large local following but nation wide radio play evaded them. In 1995 they released Tragic Kingdom which quickly became a huge best seller. Off of that album comes this song, "Excuse Me Mr.":

That will wrap up this Nineties Friday, I hope you enjoyed the selections of the day. Please feel free to leave any questions or comments below. As always, thank you so much for all of your support, I really do greatly appreciate it. Have a great weekend everyone!

Terminator 2 was literally a groundbreaking leap in the world of action and visual effects, and even today, it's definitely a movie worth watching.

It was a really cool movie, after it came along all of the other movies had to measure up and improve their special effect, but T2 was awesome!
