Italy Introduces It's First Silver Bullion Coin, The Daisy

For years mints around the world have been producing silver bullions coins for investors and collectors. I've been a big collector of the United States and Mexican silver for many years now. I also have many from other nations around the world, not only are they valuable as silver, but as works of art.

This year Italy, for the first time, has produced their very first silver bullion coin. It has a very limited production of only 16,000 and sold out immediately at the mint. Out of those 3,000 were individually wrapped and the other 13,000 were sold in tubes. Obviously the best quality ones won't be coming out of the tubes!

Have a look at the coin, it's a beautiful design:

APMEX.com

About the coin:

Numista.com

First off, it's one Troy ounce of .999 fine silver and interestingly it's denomination is only 0.25 EURO. I would have thought it would have been higher. On the obverse (front) it displays daisy flowers and on the reverse (back) it has the image of a woman representing Italian flora. Being a first year of issue I think I'll pick one up as it will likely appreciate in value. The first strike coins that are graded a perfect MS70 by PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) are running $400 at APMEX, and the ungraded are $72.92 as of the time I'm writing up this post. I'll likely go with the less expensive option.

This appears to be part of a series, Flora and Fauna, so next year we will likely see a different flower.

Flora is also a Roman goddess and the likely inspiration for the coin. So let's talk about her, she has been important figure in art over the last 2,000 years.

Flora

Flora is the Roman goddess of flowers and spring, as well as of youth. While she is one of the more minor deities, she was important enough to have her own priests and yearly festival. The festival was from April 28th until May 3rd with many flowers, entertainment, as well as the all important drinking. What is a party if you're sober after all?

Additionally she is also one of the Roman goddesses associated with fertility.

Here she is depicted on a gold coin from between 43-39 BCE.

Wikipedia.org

Not the prettiest depiction of a woman goddess in my opinion, but coin making in those days wasn't nearly as good as today.

Below she is depicted in a mural found in the doomed city of Pompeii, that was rediscovered during excavations of the ancient city. Here she is shown collecting flowers.

artofit.org

Her importance didn't cease after ancient Roman times as seen in artistic works through the ages:

Flora painted by Rembrandt, one of many from his career in the 1600's

Wikipedia.org

Below is the Goddess Flora with a Feast of the Gods from the 1600's from the Workshop of Jan Brueghel the Younger and Workshop of Hendrik van Balen the Elder

And a more modern version that looks suspiciously to have been created by AI.

And now Flora graces the first Italian silver bullion created this year for 2025. This Roman goddess continues to be an inspiration to celebrate spring until modern times!

I hope you enjoyed the post today. I really like the new silver bullion that Italy is producing, and if it continues to be low mintage over the years these could be rather valuable coins. We'll see what the Italian Mint decides on production numbers for next year. Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below, and thank you for all of your support. I really do appreciate all of you! Have a great Wednesday everyone!

Interesting that they would set the denomination so low at 0.25 EURO, for a .999 fine troy ounce!🤔
I also had no idea that Italy wasn't minting silver bullion coins....
This one certainly is a beauty for their first attempt at the bullion market!!👍😀

They did a great job, I think it's not a bad buy. First year of issues usually tend to become valuable. The denomination did seem low, but it wasn't our decision! lol

You're probably correct, the first year issue is going to be sought after!👍😀
Hopefully they will continue to mint more in the future!👍

Nice coin, maybe a little simple, but sometimes less is more, it goes at about 50 euros, lowest price, here on Ebay.

Sometimes less is better... That's a great price there, here it's a lot more expensive thanks to import fees and tariffs, but it's still an awesome coin!

I'd love to get my hands on a limited run piece like that. As much as I like the silver content, I also like the value that is derived from the scarcity.

Being first year they issue them they will likely become more expensive over time. I think this one's a pretty good bet for appreciation. Scarcity makes a huge difference!

Cool looking piece buy for $70 I’ll pass.

Apparently it's only 50 Euros in Europe! Not that it helps us out over here in the US.

I'm assuming they're referring to the Roman goddess Flora since she is the goddess of flowers. I like it, but want to find a lower price before I buy one though!

Very cool looking piece! Shame what's left costs so much. Maybe in the future if it has higher mintage and lower prices I'll buy some.

Those first strike PCGS coins are ridiculous at $400, I'm going to wait for a sale and/ or a dip in silver before I pull the trigger. Some deals may come up later in the year!

The design of the coin looks very extravagant, it is a business with a lot of potential, maybe its value will increase even more in the next few years, good luck my friend.

In Europe they're on 50 Euros, I think I'll shop around before I think about buying though. Maybe a good sale @silversaver888 !

With only 16k minted, this is going to be a tough one to justify buying. I'm betting it goes for a pretty penny being the first.
I may wait for the next year's assuming silver prices don't do the hockey stick thing by then.
Thanks for the heads up @thebighigg

I'm holding out for a sale or dip, or maybe both before I buy one. They're $20 cheaper in Europe of course, no that it helps us out over here on the other side of the Atlantic!

The silver is where the true value lies, they scarcity since only 16K were minted! I made the jump to Flora the goddess from that which is probably a safe assumption.

So many maxis out there gathering precious metals. I understand that 16k is not so much but to have it sellout almost immediately is crazy. I guess the idea is to make it limited, to create FOMO, but it's still a lovely piece of art.
