Gold Markets Hot and Silver Gold Stackers Twelve Days of Christmas Day 6, The Gunfight at the O.K. Corral
Talk about another rough day for cryptocurrency. Bitcoin is down below $90,000 and Hive down into the ten cent range. So rather than wallow in the market blues too much today, I decided to focus on some more gold. Not the TGLD from yesterday, but with the actual shiny stuff as gold is at $4,077 as of the time of writing this post. It really is holding on strongly above that $4K line!
For the Silver Gold Stackers Twelve Days of Christmas I am at day 6, and a new product has just come out that I really want to have in my collection. The Arizona Goldbacks have just been released featuring events that helped form the state. They are pure gold in bill form, and although not legal tender they contain smaller amounts of gold which are more affordable to the masses as gold costs more than $4K per ounce. My pick of the day is the five Arizona Goldback containing 1/200 ounces of gold and commemorates the events of the O.K. Corral in Tombstone Arizona with female gunfighter holding a smoking gun and the sign for the O.K. Corral in the background. Have a look at this work of art!
The Goldback company produces some of the most beautiful works of art containing pure gold on the market. They released the Florida line a couple years back and they likewise were beautiful. Arizona is another state I am very connected to having lived there and hunted for gold there many times over the years. I've even been to Tombstone more than once, and lived to talk about it!
Tombstone and The Gunfight at the O.K. Corral

No event in Arizona history is nearly as famous as the the infamous Gunfight at the O.K. Corral. Although it lasted a mere thirty seconds it has become a defining event in the legends of the American Wild West. Tombstone was a boomtown that appeared almost overnight when silver was discovered in the deserts of Pima County, Arizona and became known as Tombstone. Often said to be the town to tough do die.
It didn't take long for tensions to rise between mine owners, businessman, saloons, and every other enterprise against the outlying ranchers and cattle rustlers. The complex legal structure in the town didn't help much either with US Marshal and Town Marshall Virgil Earp (supporting businesses) being at odds with county sheriff Johnny Behan supporting ranchers led by Ike Clanton. Then add in a woman Josephine who both Wyatt Earp and Behan were courting for her attention, and things got personal fast.

Things came to a head on Oct. 26, 1881 when some cowboys were carrying firearms in town which was against the law. Virgil enlisted the help of his brothers Wyatt and Morgan along with Wyatt's good friend Holliday to help disarm them. Ike Clanton was leading the group but as soon as shooting started he ran away. The other cowboys in the fight were Ike's younger brother Billy, Billy Claiborne, and bothers Tom and Frank McLaury.

The actual shootout was in a narrow alley next to the O.K. Corral with the men only some six feet (2 meters) apart. So how did anyone survive at such close range? The gunpowder was very smoky back then so after one or two shots the air would have been filled with a black fog making visibility very poor. During the fight the only figure who didn't move at all was Wyatt, while the others scrambled for better positions. Yet he was the only one to go unwounded in the fight.
The shoutout lasted around thirty seconds. In the end Virgil was hit in the calf, Morgan in the back, and Doc was grazed on his hip. Billy Clanton, Billy Claiborne, Frank and Tom McLaury all laid dead or dying in the street. That was the catalyst that set off the eventual war between the cowboys and the Earp's.
If you haven't seen the movie Tombstone, it's worth watching. Although not completely historically accurate, it's fun to watch.
And here is the view from Boothill Cemetery outside of Tombstone which I have visited a couple of times. The graves of those killed in the gunfight remain marked to this very day.

A sad reminder that the fighting and death we see in the movies really did happen with fatal consequences. It's sad that in our world today we continue to see so much murder and violence, I guess we don't seem to learn as a species...

I was actually looking at some gold today, but I just couldn't do it since I recently had to buy some new appliances. I ended up buying silver instead.
Ouch, new appliances are painful! Silver is less expensive, for the time being at least! Glad you were able to pick up some precious metals though. I had to pick up a new dishwasher about six months back, that was expensive!
We should have gotten a new dishwasher too, but I had to draw the line somewhere!

Most law enforcement guys and historians think the reason he went untouched is because he held still. Everyone else's first instinct is to shoot for the movement and when he didn't he was a less noticeable target. Thirty seconds that help define the Wild West!
Whether he knew it or not, that was a very smart move, and probably saved his life😇
It would be interesting to someday visit Tombstone, see the site of this historic gunfight!😀
He was always very lucky. In the movie Tombstone where Wyatt kills Curly Bill in the river wasn't far from the truth. He charged right through a barrage of bullets and had bullet holes through his coat and hat, even his saddle horn was hit. Yet he never got hit, either divine protection or just plain dumb luck, who knows?

This is the first time I heard about the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral
Very cool town Tombstone, it was probably one of the most famous gunfights in the history of the Wild West. It actually had national consequences as the war that erupted shut down stagecoach lines to do bandits and slowed the railroad construction across the country. Plus it's a great Kurt Russell movie if you haven't seen it, "Tombstone".

I would love to get back to the desert and tour around the south west again. Ive never been to tombstone.
It's very much an old west town in the central part. There are suburbs on the outskirts where most of the people live today. It's a cool little town, you can even tour the Birdcage Saloon, it's still standing after all of these years!
