Back To The Early 1980's on this Three Tune Tuesday

If you've been watching the cryptocurrency prices today you likely have the blues. So rather than worry about any of that, I decided to take a musical journey to the early 1980's. Doesn't my header today remind you of Back to the Future, at least a little? It was an attempt anyway, AI has a mind of it's own. There's even a red Gibson electric guitar just like the movie!

In case you haven't guessed yet, it's Tuesday once again and I'll be sharing another Three Tune Tuesday. Let's get started with The English Beat...

The English Beat

This legendary ska band formed in Birmingham, England in 1978 fronted by Dave Wakeling and Ranking Roger. They were know by different names depending on where you lived. In Europe they were The Beat, in the US they were The English Beat, and in Australia they were The British Beat. From 1980 to 1982 they produced three studio albums and a string of hit songs. The band split up in 1983 spinning off into bands General Public and Fine Young Cannibals. However, in 1982 their last album Special Beat Service had this great hit, "Save It for Later":

Berlin

Berlin is often best know for the song "Take My Breath Away", but they started off in a very different direction. Formed in 1976 in Orange, California the band didn't have any luck with their original vocalist. In 1979 they managed to recruit Teri Nunn and pursued an electronic sound popular in Europe at the time. Having no luck getting a record deal, they disbanded and Nunn decided to pursue an acting career. However, she rejoined the band in 1980 and their breakthrough album Pleasure Victim was released in 1982.

Pleasure Victim was a much more electronic/ synthesizer driven sound and the band found some initial success and fan following. They changed their sound to more rock n roll for their second album Love Life, which was released in 1984, which had this big hit, "No More Words":

Adam & The Ants

This band was formed in 1977 in London, initially as a punk band. There were two version of the band, both fronted by Adam Ant. In 1980 all of the original band, minus Ant, left to join the band Bow Wow Wow. A new band was put together and finally broke into the mainstream popularity. In 1980 they released Kings of the Wild Frontier that went to number one on the charts in UK. In 1982 Adam Ant left to pursue his very successful solo career, but not before scoring a string of hits with The Ants.

This came off the above mentioned album, "Antmusic"

I remember digging into Berlin a while ago and I was really surprised to find out how different their other stuff was from the songs I was most familiar with. These are some great choices you made for us today!

I always liked Berlin's album Pleasure Victim, it really had a different sound and some great songs it as well. I'm glad you liked the picks of the day, I felt like going with something a little different today to keep thing interesting!

I particularly consider the music of this decade to be one of the most important in the musical transition that has existed due to the freshness and new discoveries present within it.
What you share is fantastic!
It made me feel joyfully nostalgic!

I'm glad you enjoyed the songs today, it really was a huge transition decade. Especially the first half as the sound moved away from the 70's! It's always fun to find out that someone enjoyed it, it was fun to put together as well!

Adam Ant, I remember; I think they were still quite popular, as was Berlin. I don't know the first band. I'll check it out. It's like the beginning of Brit-pop.

Thank you! Adam Ant and Berlin were huge in 80's and still perform today. The English Beat were a great band but very short lived. You've probably heard their music in a few movies and not even realized it. They were ska/reggae style music, General Public that came later was more pop for sure!

These were way ahead of your time for sure, early 1980's from the ska and new wave movements. Berlin you probably have heard before, the song "Take My Breath Away" was in the movie Top Gun. Another 80's item that starred Tom Cruise as a much younger man. Glad you liked the sound!

Gold and silver are headed for the top of the charts. I think BTC will too, but it's become attached to the stock market to an extent now which it never was meant to be. Oh well, progress they call it?

Honestly, your choice of early '80s songs took me right back to the days of cassettes and radio. 'Save It for Later' and 'No More Words' are both timeless gems.

Haha, alive and kicking as well but mostly the baby is honestly. I feel wrecked with this heat and pain due to holding fluids, it's gotten so much worse overnight when the heat arrived. But at least I now have a comfy chair to sit in when I really can't lay down (my hands hurt and go numb constantly) so that's good and a relief a few hours a day.

Have to suck it up and sit it out, summer is what it is here, lol.

Sorry to hear about the swelling and fluid retention, that always sucks. I'm glad you have a comfy chair to use when you can't lay down though, that's important. The heat will be around for quite a while now, so I hope that air conditioning is working well in your place!
