A Beautiful Eagle Coat of Arms on Silver from Prussia
We're finally closing out the work week, it's already Thursday. I hope you've all been having a good week so far, it's been pretty busy for me. Things on Hive are slowly calming down a bit since the collapse of the BRO community and the associated tokens. But The Pub community was born out of it's ashes here on Hive and over on Discord. It's a great community, you should check it out!
Today I'll be taking a break from the Twelve Days of Christmas, mainly because I haven't found what I want for day eleven quite yet. Instead I thought I might share a little treasure I've had waiting in the wings for sometime now. @coinjoe shared a coin from Prussia sometime back and it got me thinking that I have a couple as well. I would venture to guess that the majority of you have never heard of Prussia, unless of course you live in Philadelphia. There the city of King of Prussia which is located west of the city, I used to go shopping out there all the time when I lived in Philly.
Prussia was a country born out of German states in 1525 first conquered by the Teutonic Knights following the Crusades. Prussia quickly grew in military strength and began to expand it's borders and became the Kingdom of Prussia in 1701. It then became the German Empire in 1871. But nothing last forever, the German Revolution of 1918 ended the monarchy and by 1935 the Nazi regime controlled what was left. We all know how that turned out...
My coin of the day comes for Prussia back in 1909 very near the end of the run for the Empire. What drew my attention when I bought it was the coat of arms with the artistic eagle. I don't even recall when I picked this up, it was long time ago, but it is a cool coin!

About the coin:

From numista.com
The most important thing about the coin is it is 90% silver. It has a melt value of $23.17 by silver alone, but would sell for around $45 dollars to most collectors today. Much more than I paid for it! It's a three Mark coin that was minted in Berlin and in 1909 and there were 6 ,343,745 produced. So not a rare coin at all, an easy one to add to your collection is the good news! I really don't own many coins from Prussia or Germany for that matter, I think they just tend to be more expensive on this side of the pond. So I've usually stuck with coins from the Americas for the most part.
It doesn't mean there aren't a lot of great coins you can collect. I think Germany has produced more silver commemorative coins than just about any other country on the face of the planet. @trumpman has a huge stack of them, so many cool coins! If I lived in Europe they would be among my favorites to add to the collection!

With continued world economic uncertainty, silver and gold are going to continue to grow in value and are and excellent place to invest currently. I'm still hanging on to my BTC as well, and with any luck we'll see a turn around in crypto prices again in the near future. However, the AI bubble is looking as though it may be ready to burst so holding precious metals is a good idea!
I hope you enjoyed my post for the day and liked the coin. I love the coat of arms on this one, it's a great design. Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below, and thank you for all of your support! Any one else have any Prussian coins?

Awesome 3 Mark 1908 Silver coin my friend, I always liked older coins, where I can trace the history like this one!!😀
Very good to hear that the new Pub community, is filling the vacancy of the BRO community!
A beautifully designed coin that conveys a deep sense of cultural and political history from the end of the Roman empire and into the Holy Roman empire. Even I have a few of these Prussian coins as a part of my collection.
