RE: Disney's The Little Mermaid 2023: A Movie Review

This film has been the talk on social media especially because of the race swap of the main character. Honestly, I think the idea of representation in films is absurd. A person should be chosen to play a role if they're good enough and not if they just belong to a certain demographic. Other than that, I haven't really been into live remakes ever since I watched The Lion King. It's funny that they are called 'live action remakes' when the animals still have to be animated😅.

One significant change is the emphasis on Ariel's desire to explore the human world driven by her curiosity and longing for freedom, rather than solely because of Eric.

Ok this change may be something worth seeing the film for. The animated movie presented us a story of young and innocent love which was good. I don't know if I'd choose personal ambition over genuine selfless love but I'd give it a chance.

I'm glad you enjoyed this film. Nice reading from you!

When it comes to the representation of races in a film, my opinion is divided. There are other ways to represent them and show support. However, if the chosen race can deliver justice for the portrayal of the character, then it's okay. After watching the film, I think Halle Bailey performed the given role well :))

Thank you for checking this out :))
