National Colon Gas Day is celebrated on January 7th and is probably one of the smelliest days on the calendar. On this day, people may not be encouraged to pass gas, but they are supposed to do so without embarrassment. Passing gas is one of those things that makes everyone laugh, from children to adults.

El Día Nacional de los Gases de Colon se celebra el 7 de enero y probablemente sea uno de los días más apestosos del calendario. En este día, puede que no se anime a la gente a expulsar gases del colon, pero se supone que pueden hacerlo sin vergüenza. Expulsar gases es una de esas cosas que hacen reír a cualquiera, desde niños hasta adultos.

This holiday was created in 2013 after Finland hosted the first World Fart Championship. The reason for the competition is unknown, but it happened, giving rise to National Fart Day. We produce between 500 and 1,200 grams of gas in our intestines daily and expel it through the anus at intervals. This gas is a byproduct of digestion and contains various gases, including oxygen, methane, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, hydrogen, and 1% sulfur (which causes the odor).

Esta festividad se creó en 2013 luego de que Finlandia organizara el primer Campeonato Mundial de Gases. Se desconoce por qué se organizó esta competición, pero así fue, lo que dio origen al Día Nacional de los Gases.
Producimos entre 500 y 1,200 gramos de gas en nuestros intestinos diariamente y lo expulsamos por el ano a intervalos. Este gas es un subproducto de la digestión y contiene varios gases, como oxígeno, metano, nitrógeno, dióxido de carbono, hidrógeno y un 1 % de azufre (causante del olor).

In most cases, passing gas is considered truly unpleasant and disgusting. If you let one rip near other people, you might get disapproving looks. And while it's neither hygienic nor civilized to pass gas in public or while eating, it's a very important part of the human metabolism. It's a natural phenomenon and the way the body eliminates residual gas trapped in the stomach due to digestion.
Some important facts about farts.
- Everyone farts. Not everyone feels the need to do it in front of other people.
- The average adult farts 14 times a day.
- Animals also fart, including cows, sheep, and dogs (termites are the biggest farters!).

En la mayoría de los casos, se considera que expulsar un gas es algo realmente malo y repugnante. Si se te cae uno cerca de otras personas, es posible que te miren con desaprobación. Y aunque no es higiénico ni civilizado expulsar gases en lugares públicos o al comer, expulsarlos es una parte muy importante del metabolismo humano. Es un fenómeno natural y la forma en que el cuerpo elimina los gases residuales atrapados en el estómago debido a la digestión.

Sometimes, giant insects attack the microphones and we have to get out our silly swatters and smack 'em up so we have something to snack on because the popcorn got eaten already by little slugs that left slimy trails everywhere and made the sidewalks slippery so that the pancakes didn't get enough traction on our canoes to steer the spaceships. Exactly.
