🇪🇸 ~ Hoy es un día lluvioso espectacular desde muy temprano y mi corazón lo agradece (porque la lluvia todo lo cura) después de pasar algunos días muy tensos: He sido engañada de la manera mas boba posible por un grupo aproximadamente de 7 niñas 😂 y solo me enteré de eso cuando mis amigos y familia comenzaron a regañarme por ingenua.
🇺🇸 ~ Today has been a spectacular rainy day since early morning, and my heart is grateful (because rain heals everything) after spending a few very tense days: I was deceived in the most foolish way possible by a group of about seven girls 😂, and I only found out when my friends and family started scolding me for being naive.
Salí una noche a botar la basura y este grupo de niñas frente a mi casa me abordan con un gato pequeño, me dicen que estaban buscando a su mamá, que no la encontraban y que si yo podía recibirlo; el gatico dentro de un casco de bicicleta de plástico con un trapito viejo se veía lamentable, medio desmayado y muy flaquito. Le dije a las niñas que yo no podía recibir mas gatos en mi casa pero que sabía de alguien que estaba buscando adoptar un gatito cerca de aquí, que me comunicaría con la persona y que por favor volvieran a mi casa al día siguiente, porque si no concretaba la adopcion ellas debían llevarse al gatito con ellas para cuidarlo.
I went out one night to take out the trash and this group of girls in front of my house approached me with a small cat. They told me they were looking for its mother, that they couldn't find her, and asked if I could take it in. The kitten was inside a plastic bicycle helmet with an old rag and looked pitiful, half-fainting and very skinny. I told the girls that I couldn't take any more cats into my house, but that I knew someone who was looking to adopt a kitten nearby. I said I would contact that person and asked them to please come back to my house the next day, because if I couldn't arrange the adoption, they would have to take the kitten with them to look after it.
✦ The next morning, I went out to look for the kitten's mother, but after almost two days of those girls playing with him, I didn't really have much faith that I would find her and that she would take him back ✦

Al día siguiente la persona que estaba buscando adoptar un gatito ya había adoptado 2, eso me dejo desolada porque significaba que por la tarde debía entregarle el gatito al grupo de niñas sí o sí, porque en la casa familiar ya tengo ultimátum de NO MAS GATOS.
The next day, the person who was looking to adopt a kitten had already adopted two, which left me devastated because it meant that in the afternoon I had to give the kitten to the group of girls no matter what, because at my family home I already had an ultimatum of NO MORE CATS.
SPOILER NO SPOILER QUE SOLO YO NO VI VENIR: Las niñas al día siguiente no volvieron, ni al siguiente tampoco. Y cuando le conté eso a mis amigos pues todos a excepción de 1 sola me han regañado y hecho chistes al respecto ("¿cuántas niñas necesitas para manipular a una mujer de 36 años?"), porque literalmente, unas niñas pequeñas consiguieron engañarme para dejarme esta responsabilidad (o eso me aseguran).
SPOILER NOT A SPOILER THAT ONLY I DIDN'T SEE COMING: The girls didn't come back the next day, or the day after that either. And when I told my friends about it, all of them except for one scolded me and made jokes about it (“How many little girls does it take to manipulate a 36-year-old woman?”), because literally, some little girls managed to trick me into taking on this responsibility (or so they assure me).
Ahora en mejores noticias (aunque no te preocupes, si te quieres burlar de mí eres muy bienvenido) luego de tensas negociaciones con la matriarca de este castillo, el gatito que he bautizado "DaVinci" tiene visa de turista mientras yo toco puertas y solicito ayuda en difundir su informacion para conseguirle un hogar amoroso y responsable.
Now for some better news (but don't worry, if you want to make fun of me, you're more than welcome to). After tense negotiations with the matriarch of this castle, the kitten I've named “DaVinci” has a tourist visa while I knock on doors and ask for help spreading the word to find him a loving and responsible home.

La verdad amigos, yo sí creí que esas niñas volverían, las vi tan preocupadas por el gatito y no percibí segundas intensiones. Un amigo me dice que quizá sí quisieron volver por el minino pero que sus padres no las dejaron porque significaría que ellos tendrían que hacerse cargo de la situación. No se qué creer, solo se que me siento tranquila y agradecida de poder cuidar a DaVinci y que no me vi obligada a sacarlo de la casa, especialmente con el diluvio que ha caído hoy, él esta muy pequeñito y bajo de peso. Lo estoy alimentando con caldo, pollo mechado, carne molida y algo de huevos revueltos sin sal para que agarre pesito.
Honestly, friends, I did believe those girls would come back. I saw how worried they were about the kitten and didn't sense any ulterior motives. A friend tells me that maybe they did want to come back for the cat, but their parents wouldn't let them because it would mean they would have to take care of the situation. I don't know what to believe, I just know that I feel calm and grateful to be able to take care of DaVinci and that I wasn't forced to take him out of the house, especially with the downpour we've had today. He's very small and underweight. I'm feeding him broth, shredded chicken, ground beef, and some unsalted scrambled eggs so he can gain some weight.
En retrospección, durante las horas que pensé que tendría que sacarlo a la calle me sentí muy mal, no solo mental y emocionalmente sino físicamente. Tenía nauseas, se me bajo la tensión y me dio un fuerte dolor de cabeza, tenía angustia imaginando a DaVinci solito afuera sin resguardo o alimento, así que hoy me siento radiante de poder cuidarlo y de gozar de este permiso provisional para resguardarlo en una habitación de la casa donde tiene todo lo que necesita para recuperarse.
In retrospect, during the hours that I thought I would have to take him out onto the street, I felt terrible, not only mentally and emotionally but also physically. I felt nauseous, my blood pressure dropped, and I had a severe headache. I was distressed imagining DaVinci alone outside without shelter or food, so today I feel delighted to be able to care for him and enjoy this temporary permission to shelter him in a room in the house where he has everything he needs to recover.
Pienso en este episodio de mi vida como un capitulo mas de "cuando te has ganado la etiqueta de la señora que cuida gatos" y sus consecuencias. Es curioso como tu deseo de ayudar puede desencadenar otros efectos en quienes te rodean sin tu imaginarlo; es decir entiendo que esta casa sea señalada como un lugar donde han rescatado gatitos pero eso no significa que las personas o niños de la comunidad le quiten los gatitos bebés a las mamás gatunas de la zona para entregárnoslo, eso lastima tanto a la mamá gato como al bebé que la necesita y nos genera gran angustia. Ahora nos toca tener una seria conversación sobre esta situación con los padres y madres de la comunidad para que eduquen a sus niños sobre no manipular animales pequeños de esa manera.
I think of this episode in my life as just another chapter in “when you've earned the label of the lady who takes care of cats” and its consequences. It's funny how your desire to help can trigger other effects in those around you without you realizing it; I understand that this house is known as a place where kittens have been rescued, but that doesn't mean that people or children in the community should take baby kittens away from their mothers in the area and bring them to us. That hurts both the mother cat and the baby who needs her, and it causes us great distress. Now we need to have a serious conversation about this situation with the parents in the community so that they can educate their children not to handle small animals in this way.
