RE: What’s the Economic Interest in GREENLAND?

Interesting article.

I actually like the story about how Greenland got its name. The story I heard is when maps were made "ICE"land made itself unappealing so would be pillagers would rather go to "GREEN"land which sounds much more inviting.

Global warming may be changing that old moniker into something more appropriate for the territory.

However, I purchased land almost 20 years go with global warming in mind. It is in Northwestern British Columbia and a very old scientific study did indeed say that while much of the world would suffer because of global warming, a select few places would do better. The Nass Valley was one of those places and it is where I personally purchased property.

So, getting property that is currently undervalued looking forward to potential future use if global warming takes route is certainly appealing.

However, I'd be curious what is actually underneath those frozen white areas. Water and better temperatures is certainly useful for farming but if there is solid rock underneath the ice? Farming isn't going to happen any time soon. As a Canadian thawing temperatures have been making travel through the arctic actually possible and yes logistics that way could be really important.

In the end it will be interesting to see what the results are :)

Thanks for the comment. Interesting history about the Ice x Green naming i didn't know. It's probabily a very old name for it to still be called GreenLand.

The property bought was an amazing example of how you can use what you learn to your advantage in finance.

Underneath the frozen areas is said to have a lot of minerals and I also saw that "GreenLand" name came from the vikings that arrived there and believe it or not the Land was Green, which is very strange to believe right?

Hmm... the way I heard it was the Viking Erik the Red in around 982-985 AD named it "Grœnland" (Greenland) not because it was green but because he was hoping to draw other settlers there :)

And minerals are great for mining but not always great for agriculture.

In the end I hope things just end peacefully one way or another and if GreenLand actually starts to live up to its name... Sort of awesome :)
