Raspberries or Strawberries? They're both Free with the Olio app
Hello Hello Hivians, fellow Hive photographers, Friendlymoose Photo Contest and #FBC enthusiasts!
It's always a pleasure to participate in challenges that are run on Hive, I think they are what makes this blockchain of ours such a wonderful place. Entering and engaging gives us a community spirit that sets Hive apart from other web3 projects.
This week's theme in the Friendlymoose Photo Contest from @friendlymoose is "FOOD" and you can check the contest post here.
For my entry, I've chosen a shot taken on Tuesday morning (July 8th 2025)
This photograph was captured on the morning of the 8th of July 2025 at 10:45 am. In fact all the photographs that you see are all taken pretty much at the same time!

Had to be about berries being the summer!
On Monday I made my first rescue with the Olio app. I am not sure if it is available in your country or just the UK, but basically a volunteer will have rescued discounted food from a supermarket. As they are not legally allowed to sell it past its sell by or use by dates then Olio have arranged for volunteers to rescue it then make it available for app users to collect.
So I got some berries and vine tomatoes!
Some of you will know that Mrs T makes green smoothies for us to drink. This is basically spinach, bananas, water and berries. The berries are normally bought frozen from a supermarket.
So when I saw on Olio there were punnets of strawberries and raspberries, I decided that Monday would be the night that I tested it!
Of course those of you that freeze berries know you can't just stick berries in a bag into a freezer or they will become one big lump!
So you place on a tray and put in the freezer till they are frozen.
I did this overnight.
They do have a frosted look to them.
In fact the first image I am using for the contest looks like an AI photograph Mrs T. I was quite chuffed with that!
Once they are frozen then you can bag them and pop them in the freezer like this...
It did remind me when I was a child when we berry picking at a farm. I would sit in the raspberry rows and gorge myself on my favourite fruit!
What is your favourite berry or fruit?
Mine of course is the raspberry
Thanks for checking out my entry for this week's #FPC!
What do you think? Was the first image your favourite?
Thanks for visiting and enjoy the rest of your week!
All images and ramblings are from me, the mad Scotsman TengoLoTodo unless otherwise stated..

you could have striked almost 2 in one with this post since we started RED photo essay , favourite fruit depends on how it's being served ,..
as desert strawberries , as jam strawberies and blackberies as a drink lemons Limonella
Oh yes the RED photo essay is a good one...I shall be entering, thanks for the reminder...
hehe Raspberry jam for me
Raraspberries and blacberries. When I find cheap raspberry and blackberry I made nice homemade ice cream.
Oh that is a nice ice cream to make! There is something special about raspberries for me.
I completely understand you. My grandmother had raspberries. As a kid, every summer I ate them every day, and no insecticides or herbicides were used, they didn't need to be washed, you just picked them off the bush and ate them. We also made ice cream out of them. And I love wild strawberries. The little ones.
Nice shots, I would have both
As a child I didn't like strawberries at all. It was raspberries all the way, now though I like both.
I have heard that Scottish raspberries are supposedly the best? Don't know about their strawberries. I do know they have the hottest strawberry blonde ex politician about though.
This neck of the woods is where loads of raspberries and strawberries are grown. We seem to have the perfect climate for raspberries, but they are both right up there as some of the best going..
👍
I seldom eat and see this fruits. I would go for raspberries.😌😌
Raspberries are just yummy and my favourite from forever

These are very interesting images and I don't know why but it reminded me of my biology internship, when we had to look at some microorganisms under the microscope!!! I love strawberries and berries, but my favorite fruits are coconut and pineapple. Great photos, Ed. Red hugs to you.
Oh yes it does look like something underneath a microscope, I think the little hairs make it feel like that!
Oh pineapple, well I know you love pineapple juice Nancy.
A coconut hug today Nancy
Nice pics, Super Ed!! The first one is really good. 💙
I love all the berries but my fav are blueberries.
Thank you Super Eli 💙, it was fun trying to capture them. I am hoping there will be some blueberries that are free in the future. We shall see.
Out of all, first is my favorite. I love how you captured it. With a clear shot of what's in a the front and the slightly blurry effect in the back, its so kewllllll!. Uwu. And they looks masarap ✨🤤🤤💃
hehe may I just tell you that they are masarap!
Thanks Parot that was fun trying to think how to capture them :)
Nice shots! I love berries!
Me too, they really are great, tasty and good for us!
We don't get raspberries here often, my selection would be for one I seldom see. Variety is the spice of life so they say.
Have a great weekend, good to freeze for future when able to buy cheaper during season.
Yes it is a fruit I rarely saw abroad in hot countries. Our climate is perfect for them.
