Highland Cows Wild Drovers and Hazy IPA Beers from Loch Lomond Brewery
Hello Hivians and all you beer lovers.
Saturday on Hive of course means it's time to write about the good old amber nectar or Beer and today's no exception for me.
Today we are having a local beer, yes one from Scotland 🏴
What have Highland cows got to do with beer?
Answer ...Read on and find out!
Loch Lomond Brewery..
... was founded in 2011 by Euan and Fiona MacEachern. It has grown from a mom and pop kitchen job in Luss to a state-of-the-art 35-hectolitre facility near Dumbarton on the west coast of Scotland.
Along the way the brewery has picked up a shitload of awards.
The brewery's ethos is rooted in the natural beauty of the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, which they say inspires their creative and varied beer styles. You can see some of those views on their website, I have screenshotted one for you above.
They do produce a wide array of ales, from traditional Scottish styles to stouts and lagers. But it's their hazy IPAs have gained rave reviews and we are testing drinking one today!.
Hello Wild Drover
I picked these up in our local Lidl and I think they were £1.89 a can.
Is that not a fluffing cute can or what!?!
A colourful illustration of a Highland cow adorns the can, but why?
Well let's answer in reverse... so a "drover" is someone who drives cattle. The highland cow is often depicted with a somewhat wild and shaggy appearance ( abit like me!), hence the "Wild Drover" name.
The nose of the highland cow and St Andrew's flag
The patron saint of Scotland is Andrew and the flag below is our national flag.
Some people think it is based on the nose of the Highland Cow... What do you think?
The Hazy IPA
I think it is my favourite type of IPA.
Mrs T asked why is it called a hazy IPA... So I poured it for her.
It's fluffing hazy!!!
A hazy IPA is called "hazy" quite simply because of its cloudy, opaque appearance, which is a deliberate and defining characteristic of the style. Unlike the crystal-clear appearance that was traditionally sought after in most beers, the turbidity in a hazy IPA is a key feature that brewers intentionally create.
Drinking and cooking!
The first can got tanned whilst I was heating leftovers to make some tacos!
One down one to go!
Word of warning, this is one of my favourite drinks at the moment. It is so smooth and so fluffing tasty!
Cheers 🍻🌮
My Verdict
I do prefer hazy IPAs, they seem to be more intentionally crafted and I find often are tastier.
A sweet juicy and soft hazy IPA bursting with tropical fruit is what you get! So not like Scotland as you taste pineapple, mango, and citrus. It wasn't very bitter but goodness me it was drinkable!
What about you... do you drink hazy IPAs?
Posting about a beer on a Saturday on the Beer Community ....

Interesting... One does not normally associate Scotland with beer, particularly when one has a whiskey lover at home. The flavours sounds very nice, going to see if my local Lidl has it
Whisky is famous around the world, but Scots have always drunk beer. I was brought up on McEwans and Tennants and it was a long time before I had an English beer.
Now with the whole craft beer thing, one of the most famous brands BrewDog is Scottish.
Lidl's has a surprisingly good selection of beers now. I found three Loch Lomond beers there. Will be interesting to know if they have it that far south.
When I saw the cow on the can I was reminded of you and beer art, as I do remember one of your beer posts where you loved the artwork on the cans.
for a moment i thought you had 2 milk cans , instead of beer cans .
lol bring on #milksaturday
why not a #milkshakeSunday ?
oh cute, been a long time since I had one of them!
Cheers! 🍻 Hazy IPA is also my favourite! 🍺 And this one even has its own story. 😎👍
Yeah I think Hazy IPA wins 🍺!
I think they have a blonde one as well which is chuffing awesome!
Aha I did pick up another couple brews from them, hopefully that blonde will be one of them.
Hairy coos!!!
When I first met Jamie he took me for a walk through fields, over stiles, you know the walk. And there's a girt big field of highland cows staring at me and Jamie's behind me and shouts RUN!
BASTARD.
I got such a fright.
lmao and did you run 🤣. Their horns are cool mind you I would not want to be gored by one. I have found them pretty docile though compared to some other breeds in the country.
I'm generally not keen on IPAs. Prefer stouts, ales, and lagers.
Ah I am the other way around, lager drinking is generally a last resort.
Yes, I see the flag of Scotland on the cow's snout!!!! I have never seen it before. Or is it just that I have too many beers on me at this hour. hahaha. Seriously speaking, I like the combination of tacos and beers. Cheers and a local hug!🫂
hehe the cow's nose and St Andrew's cross until someone points it out you don't know. I never made a connection until someone said it. I hope you enjoy your grill today. Thank you and a beer hug on its way Nancy :)
look that can, i love it and i will drink 2 like minimun if i could :D
hehe 2 is a good amount
I love than can - very clever
I think it is brilliant, the beer does not disappoint either!
That looks like a really good IPA. Now I want one too! I have some beer in the fridge but no IPA's at the moment, especially not hazy ones. I may have to run to the store this afternoon! Very cool cans with the cow on there, it's very creative and sounds like a quality brewery.
I have to admit that the highland cow beer Wild Drover was one of the nicest drinks I have had in a long time.
It is very very drinkable and even Mrs T who is not a beer drinker at all said it was delicious!
Well at least you had some beer in your fridge, that is better than none lol!
