Birthday Magic In The Mist Of Good Chaos

Birthdays are a time for celebration, reflection, and joy both for the celebrant and those celebrating with them. However when the festivities take place in a workplace setting, the experience can be overwhelming for both the celebrant and their colleagues.

Recently we celebrated one of my colleague's birthday, and while it was a bit chaotic, we managed to make it a memorable and worthwhile experience for the birthday girl.

As the superintendent pharmacist, I've witnessed a bigger workplace birthday celebrations at the different hospital's I was trained, some with complete cake, balloons, and even with buffet of food containing different cuisines of African dishes, this is so because most of them are health workers who have been practicing for years, who probably have sponsors for such birthday celebrations, most of them from their spouse's.

Even though the birthday girl has always talked about how she will celebrate her birthday this year 2025, you never know how the wind of life will blow. Even if she never said it, it's only logical to pinpoint the fact that financial constraints was luring her back from celebrating her birthday 🎂

Apart from financial constraints our birthday girl was skeptical about celebrating her birthday at work, and would have been happy to let the day pass without fanfare, but we were determined to make her feel special, even without a cake.One of the reasons why I love my colleagues at work I the fact that, they will never put pressure on you concerning birthday or any celebration.

The morning we got a surprise from the birthday girl, seeing her with a beautiful cake, we were so surprised,inspite of all her financial burdens she was still able to celebrant her birthday with a cake.
Side note: we supported her a bit financially, we just never knew she would still get a cake.The pharmacy was busy that day, with a steady stream of customers coming and going, it was really overwhelming for us, we have the cake already but the time to start singing and praying for her was what we were looking for.

In the midst of all this chaos, we managed to squeeze in a quick celebration. We gathered around the birthday girl, sang "Happy Birthday" prayed for her, the prayers were officiated by yours truly "me", monetary gifts were also given to her by most customers, we her work colleagues still added some money to her purse.

Despite the chaos and disruption, our birthday celebration was a resounding success. The birthday girl felt seen and appreciated, we even managed to take a few photos to commemorate the day.

In the end, the birthday celebration was not just about the birthday girl, it was about all of us. It was about us as a team supporting and caring for each other.

We also had the opportunity of celebrating one of our colleagues the previous day,who just returned from her maternity leave, our hands where full. We basically have an addition to our team 😍 a cute baby boy.
