The Familiar Taste I Was Looking For... <3
A few days ago, I posted about the "pasalubong" I got from my father when he went back to his hometown. I actually requested it, and it was coffee beans.
You can actually check the post here. I wasn't able to try it until today because I was busy with work, so I'm going to share my thoughts and some of the process for my preparation.
Let's start with grinding the coffee beans!
First, I prepared the things I needed. Of course, there's the coffee beans from my father's hometown, the coffee grinder and an empty container for the ground coffee later on.

My brewing method is through a French Press, so I grind my coffee beans to coarse ground. My father said that the shop he bought the beans from already had a ground version, but it was finely ground, so I asked him to get the beans instead. :)

I did it in several batches, but was able to fill up the container. There are still a little over half of the roasted coffee beans left.
The coffee beans we got are darkly roasted, which I prefer. The previous coffee beans and/or ground coffee I bought were either light or medium roast.
They were smooth and delicious to drink, but I was actually looking for a specific taste. The last time I had it was in a cafe in my father's hometown, and it was the best coffee I had. But I can't explain the taste that well... I'll just know when I taste it again. hahaha
And since the coffee beans were from his hometown, I'm quite hopeful to have that taste again.
It's brewing time!
This morning, I finally got to try this coffee. As always, I had to prepare the things I needed: coffee, a French Press, hot water, and so on.

I added around 50 grams of coffee to the carafe and added hot water. This carafe has an 800mL capacity. (I don't usually measure them since I base them on feelings. haha So, just for reference...) Then, I stir it using a chopstick. XD

I let the coffee sit for around 7 minutes before pressing. :) I'm preparing coffee for three people almost every morning, and this amount is enough for us even when we use mugs.
After pouring all the coffee into our mugs, I then ask my parents how they want their coffee. For today, they requested coffee with honey and condensed milk, and so I did.

I don't add a lot of these things, though, especially condensed milk... usually, just a teaspoon of it.
As for my coffee this morning, I only added a little drop of honey because I wanted to taste the coffee more.
And on my first sip, I tasted the coffee I've been looking for. It's so good... It has a smoky and slightly bitter flavor that lasts even after drinking. When I think about it, it's the aftertaste of the coffee that made it better. I guess it was "the" something that I've been looking for.
I had some sweet bread and an elorde bread (a kind of bread roll) this morning, and they all went well with the coffee. I've always loved having black coffee with something sweet.
As for the bread roll, I dipped it in my coffee (Filipino-style of having bread and coffee)... and it was heaven! hahahah
Even my parents enjoyed their coffee and planned on getting more of these coffee beans. We can't buy them easily since they're on another island, but perhaps my cousins could buy some when they go home... or my father would buy more when he goes back to his hometown before the year ends, since one of his siblings is coming home and they're planning to have a reunion. We'll see... :)
But really... the coffee this morning was amazing! I can't wait to have it again for breakfast tomorrow. I usually just drink a mug or two per day... and I had to finish the cold instant coffee I made yesterday to empty its container for the ground coffee. Haha So yeah, tomorrow it is! XD
Anyway, that's it for my coffee story this time around. :) Thanks for reading, and see you next time! (^^,)/

Sounds like an overall rewarding effort since you found the flavor you were looking for
For sure... :) It made me really happy... ^^
