Sugimoto and Asirpa Fan art (Golden Kamuy)

Around Sunday afternoon, I started feeling unwell, so I decided to cancel my classes that night. I felt a bit dizzy and had a fever. I couldn't work for a couple of days, so I was mostly sleeping... and of course, my ultimate healing, watching anime.

I've started watching the second season of Golden Kamuy, but was distracted by other series and manga. And since I was sick and had no work to do, I decided to continue watching the series... and yeah, I was able to catch up with the anime until the latest available season, which is the fourth one.

The series was as amazing as I imagined it to be. For those who are not familiar with it, here's a short summary below:

Sugimoto, who's known as Immortal Sugimoto following the Russo-Japanese war, made a promise to his deceased friend. He was initially aimless until he heard of a legend in which criminals stole gold from the Ainu and hid it somewhere that could only be found through a map. This map isn't ordinary, but pieces of it were tattooed on the skins of escaped prisoners.

He then met a young Ainu girl named Asirpa who started as his guide, but ended up being more involved with the so-called legend than he initially thought.

Their adventures of finding the tattooed prisoners and unveiling mysteries of the past continued until the last available season. The final season has been confirmed, but the date of release hasn't been announced yet, so I'm looking forward to watching it.

I genuinely enjoyed the animated series, so I decided to create a fanart of the two main characters, Sugimoto and Asirpa.

I used gel pens on my graphing pad for this artwork. Of course, I'm going to share some progress shots as well as the steps on how I created this piece.

I started by sketching the characters using a mechanical pencil.

Then, I lightly erased the pencil sketch using a kneading eraser. This is in preparation for the gel pen outlining and coloring.

I didn't have the exact colors of gel pens, but I tried to use something similar from the limited resource that I have.

It looked bare, so I just added the title of the anime series on top, ゴールデンカムイ (Golden Kamuy).

Lastly, I added my username, the date today and my signature. And ohh... I also added some white highlights on their eyes as well as the design on Asirpa's bandana. I used a liquid eraser for that.

And yeah... that's it for this fan art. I actually took a couple more shots together with the materials I used...

I kind of want to paint them, so I'll do another fan art of them next time. I'm not able to paint these days because of limited water supply, but I'll try to do so someday.
