Plant Stories: The Friend (Day 4/5)

It's finally my fourth day for the "Plant Series", and it's nearing the end. I've had a lot of fun creating and adding more details to the simple plant I drew on the first day. Before I show you my entry for the fourth day, allow me to reshare the drawings I made for the first three days.

Those are the entries so far, and now, let me introduce you to the latest addition, The Friend.

Since my artwork for this series has been leaning towards the concept of mysticism, I decided to add a cute "kodama" in the mix.

"Kodama" which translates to "tree spirit" or "child of a forest", often lives in old trees according to Japanese folklore. They are known to protect the forest, and whoever harms the trees would be cursed by them.

The Kodama and the plant (in my artwork) that houses the heart of the forest have been friends for a long time. Once the plant illuminates the forest, the kodama would come and play with it.

It enjoys floating around trees, especially the tree where his friend lives.

So much for the background story... let me show you the process or layers I used to create this art. :)

I've made forest and kodama art before, mostly Ghibli-inspired ones, since they also appeared in Mononoke Hime!
