FanArt Collab #02: Junjou Romantica (with @suezoe)
Last May, I did my first-ever anime art collaboration! It was with my dear friend, @suezoe, whom I met here on HIVE, particularly in The Anime Realm community.
The first collaboration we did was made traditionally. She kindly agreed to do it that way because I'm not that familiar with digital drawing. Well, I've tried it using a drawing tab attached to my computer, but it was a hassle to do, so I quit doing so.
However, this time around, I decided to challenge myself again... using my smartphone.
HOW IT STARTED...
Earlier last month, @suezoe sent me a list of the anime she loves. We wanted to make something based on an anime we both love, and upon checking her list, I saw an anime title that means a lot to me. It's Junjou Romantica.
As @suezoe mentioned on her second collaboration post earlier, a lot of BL fans started liking this genre after watching Junjou Romantica. And yes, I'm among them.
When I watched this anime for the first time out of curiosity, I was so hooked that I got trapped in this world... never to be seen again! hahahah exagg! But really, this anime got me into BL, and I've been a fan of the genre since then. :)
Please check @suezoe's post first since she did the initial part of the collab...
LET'S TALK ABOUT THE ANIME!!! :)
I'm in charge of drawing Misaki Takahashi, and here's a gif of my artwork. :)

Junjou Romantica involves three love stories, but the main one is about Misaki Takahashi and Akihiko Usami. The latter is a popular novelist who happens to be Misaki's brother's best friend. Usami ended up becoming Misaki's tutor.
However, when Misaki stumbled upon his latest BL novel, he became more conscious and sensitive around Usami. He also started worrying about Usami's friendship with his brother.
The story was really cute and interesting. Misaki was a naive and innocent bunny, while Usami was a playful and naughty wolf. The other love stories were also entertaining to watch. So, if you're interested, feel free to give it a shot! ^^
HERE'S COMES THE FAN ART!!!
As I've mentioned earlier, @suezoe started the fan art process. When she was done creating her part, she then sent me the file.
Since she's using Medibang Paint, I decided to install it on my phone and take this opportunity to practice digital painting again.

First, I did a draft of a chibi Misaki... My initial draft is so dirty because I'm still trying to get the hang of it. Then, I opened another layer to create a cleaner art line.
As I made progress with my artwork, I also updated Sue with it. There were times when I didn't know what I was doing, so I'd send her a message and ask for guidance. hahaha

Here's the base color of my artwork.
The smartphone screen is so tiny, but drawing on it directly is much easier than using the drawing tablet connected to my computer.
The Medibang Paint app is also relatively easy to use, even for a beginner like me.

Coloring is my favorite part, especially when painting traditionally. After I did the base color, I added some shadows and more details to the artwork.
I did it using 100% opacity, then lowered it to 45% to make it more subtle.

Finally, I added my signature to the artwork. I placed it inside the heart beside Misaki.
It's my first digital art in a long time. I'm happy we chose chibi style for now, since it's much easier to draw. I'm surely going to rechallenge myself soon.
After I finished my part, I sent the file back to Sue, because she's going to make the final touches before we both make our posts about it.
She added a pastel-colored frame around the artwork, and it looked so adorable. Here's the final output below!

Our second collaboration was a success!!! And it's definitely not our last. :)
I'm now encouraged to explore digital drawing more, so I may practice and post them on my @harulovesanime account in the coming days. Of course, I'll continue painting traditionally as well, and will be sharing them on my main account. ^^
I'm excited to do another collaboration with @suezoe in the future. I hope you are, too! Please look forward to seeing more of our work in the days to come! :)
I'll end this post here. Thanks for reading, and see you around! (^^,)/

Omg, this is an awesome collaboration. I so love it and they are so cute. Like a chibi style in Yaoi manhwa. I'm reading one rn hahaha, Miracle Illusion, maybe you two are familiar with it. Ehe. Anyways, you two should do more collab. It would be so awesome for sure ✨✨💃🤩
We're planning on making more
spicyBL collabs? hahahahI haven't read that one yet... I bookmarked it... Sankyuuuuu~!!!! 💙✨

Always a pleasure... ^^
I can't believe we have the same anime as starter for BL. To be honest at that time I didn't know what was BL until I found Junjou Romantica. I have been watching BL animes but I have started watching anime long ago when I was younger and started manga/manhwa in 2024. Amazing collaboration I love it, they are looking adorable. I would love to see more collabs! 🌷
Cheers to that! hahaha
After watching Junjou Romantica, I searched for BL manga to read... haha
Then, I watched the other classic ones like Gravitation, Haru wo Daiteita, etc.
Thank you so much... we're planning on making more BL-related ones. 😉💙
My daughter she's 27 loves Anime, I'll have to show her this.
That's cool!!! Does she have a Hive account too? It would be awesome to have her in the anime community... 🩵✨🥰
Mo she doesn't, I've tried getting her to join, I'll give it another go.
Ohh... I hope she does... ^^
Greetings @tegoshei , beautiful girl, spectacular collaboration, you can always do fascinating things... A big hug.
Thank you so much... :)
@tegoshei It's a pleasure to support you, your work is magnificent...a big hug.
Always grateful for that... 😁✨
@tegoshei 💚💚🙏🙏
Misaki really looks adorable 😇 I was really impressed by how fast you drew even though you weren’t familiar with the app and hadn’t drawn digitally in a while. I’m sure you’ll do wonderful things in the future 😌 Obviously, I’d like our next collaborations to still be BL (I’m even encouraging us to do Egoistic Junjou and Terrorist Junjou 😝). It will always be a pleasure to collaborate with you, thanks for wanting to draw with me despite my late messages haha Kisses 😘💚
Ahahaha... It was faster on the phone, but when I use a drawing tablet, it would take me the whole day for a small chibi character. hahaha
Yes... let's plan that out! I'm excited to do yet another collab with you... ^^
It's always a pleasure drawing with you, and I don't mind late replies... I'm sometimes late as well when I'm occupied with work or things. :)
The art is really good. Congratulations on moving forward and getting your first collaboration. I think this anime premiered a few years ago. It was very controversial and appeared on some news sites. If I'm not mistaken, it came out after one about ice, which was very controversial and launched fujoshi to fame.
I understand that they read josei, shojo, and BL. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Thank you so much... this is our second collab, but first digital one. I'm not that aware of the controversy, as I usually just enjoy what I want to watch. haha
The concept of fujoshi and fudanshi existed even before Junjou Romantica. :) My Japanese friend, who is a fudanshi, started with Pokémon doujinshi when he was around 15~ish, he's in his mid-30s now. :)
Fujoshi and Fudanshi are terms used for BL fans. :)
There's also GL fans (yurizuki, himejoshi/himedanshi)...
Josei and shojo are common genres. :)
Shojo manga/anime = usually high school/teen love, so the targets are younger girls/ladies.
Josei manga/anime = usually deeper or mature context, so the targets are adult women. :)
There's a counterpart genre for male targets... shonen and seinen. :)
Personally, I'm a fujoshi since I love BL. I'm not a fan of josei/shojo genres, but I love shonen manga/anime. ^^
That was an excellent explanation. Here in the Americas (Latin America), it became more popular after the premiere of that series and the protagonists danced on an ice rink. I don't remember the name of the anime; right now, I'm having trouble remembering it.
I misspelled “shojo.” I have vision problems, sorry. In my case, I mostly read shonen and seinen. Seinen is very raw when it comes to the adventure genre.
However, I also read a lot of shojo and manhwa from the josei genre. It's rare for a man to read this, but they're entertaining. Hahaha.
I really like fantasy and isekai stories. BL is an area where I score 0. I don't know much or anything about it. Hahaha :P
Ohh... It's Yuri on Ice!!! I love that anime... ^^
No worries... :) I've read a couple of seinen manga as well, and they're pretty fun and exciting. One manga I'm following now is Kingdom... :)
I used to read them when I was in uni... Josei is still entertaining for me, but shojo usually have the same plot, so I rarely read them these days... ^^
I've been reading a lot of fantasy (sometimes isekai/regression) Webtoons these days. There are also isekai BL stories these days. hahaha There aren't a lot of fudanshi (guys who like BL)... I only know a couple of them. XD
Omg my baby making fan art! This is so cute, I love how you used the colors. I hope to see more of this from you, sweetie! 😭💌🌸
haha I have been making them, though I did it traditionally. Thank you! ^^
