Dungeon Meshi --- Made Me Have a Craving for Monster Meat... XD

I've been busy with work and other stuff these days, so I don't really have much time to just sit down and watch anime. Well, that doesn't really stop me from watching. I try to insert it in my breaks from work, and I could even watch one whole episode when a student is absent. Hahah

Anyway, the anime I'm going to share was released last year. And despite knowing its existence, it has been pushed back in my to-watch list for some reason. However, when I met a 9-year-old student recently, he proactively recommended I watch the series. I couldn't say no to such enthusiasm, and so I did.

The anime I'm talking about is called DUNGEON MESHI.

I bet a lot of you have heard of this anime, if not watched it. But let me share how my student described the plot to me. (He was so good at storytelling, he sent me photos and he was so animated as he introduced some characters!)

The main character, Laios and his younger sister, Falin, together with other party members, were doing an adventure inside a dungeon with various types of monsters and traps.

One day, they were attacked by a red dragon. When it seemed so hopeless, Falin sacrificed herself and brought her brother and their party members back to the surface using her magic, while she was tragically eaten by the red dragon.

Resurrection is possible in the dungeon as long as you can retrieve the physical body. Not giving up hope, Laios, alongside two of the party members who decided to stay (Marcille: an elven mage and Chilchuck: a halfling locksmith), went back to the dungeon to rescue his sister.

There, they met Senshi (a dwarven warrior) who happens to be a culinary expert.

One of the reasons why they lost against the Red Dragon was their hunger. They weren't able to eat well, so they didn't have enough energy to defeat it.

Now, with Senshi as the latest addition to their party, as long as there are monsters around, they'll never be hungry!

I can still picture how excited my student was as he was sharing the plot with me. He showed me photos of the food from the anime and boy, they look so appetizing!

It reminded me of Shokugeki no Soma, but with monsters as ingredients. hahah

After watching the first season (which has 24 episodes), I understood why my student acted that way. The series was fun and full of adventures!

It's interesting how the episode smoothly transitions into a cooking show after an exciting fight.

I also like how diverse characters try and cooperate. They have their own personality, characteristics and tasks, yet they try to unite in achieving their goal of getting Falin back while enjoying (especially Laios) the sumptuous monsters during their meals. It's the eat or be eaten type of world. hahah

I'm glad my young student convinced me to finally watch this. Now, I'm looking forward to watching the second season. It has been confirmed to have one, but there's no specific date yet.

Anyway, the manga is completed, so I might as well just read it one of these days. :)

Thanks for reading and see you around! (^^,)/

Your student is so cool. Just 9 years old and telling you the plots and you watched the anime. Really impressive.😊

He's so smart! I was impressed by his enthusiasm. That's why I couldn't NOT watch the anime he strongly recommended. hahah

Glad you finally gave Dungeon Meshi a chance! Yeah, I've seen it and it's super addictive, isn't it? The premise of eating the monsters in the dungeon sounds freaky at first, but the way they approach it, and especially how the food looks, it really whets your appetite! I love how they switch from action to “monster cooking class” so seamlessly.

And yes, the characters are the best. That dynamic between Laios all excited to try new critters, Marcille suffering, Chilchuck being the sensible one and Senshi with his passion for cooking anything is hilarious! It's true what you say, it's an “eat or be eaten” world, but they put a very humorous and adventurous spin on it. I'm glad you liked it so much, it's a different gem, thanks for sharing your experience!
