Tearing Down The Kombi!
Well Hello There Fellow Technicians And Hivers!
It's More A Caravelle...
But meh, these things are all the same! We just fitted one into a Audi Q3 so they really are all the same!
Now be be very honest I don't even know which vehicle is this! Like we have three of these Kombi's in our shop at the moment! Yeahp!!! Three!
Three plus the Audi! So that's four of these transmissions!
Now I'll be honest here.... I am not exactly sure why this has water on the inside?
The main bulk of the oil looks decently clean actually, but for some reason there is water trapped at the filter.
Now let's dig it up and see, but bossman said this one only gave slips on the clutch.
Here comes the catch!
Now I've seen bloaks breaking these tubes off more than once!
How can people not see that they are fitted through the casing to parts on the inside? Just how?
Just the other day we had a mechanic here that tore down one and he has been in the industry for many years! Specializing in transmissions so to speak! If he can do it anyone can right?
They are a bitch to remove, that's the least that can be said!
A Thing Of Beauty!
I don't always understand how people are so afraid of working on these damned glorious machines? Like seriously? I bet people aren't up for a challenge or just don't have open minds but I suppose this isn't for everyone!
Oh but the feels of fixing something on these! Absolutely amazing!
The problem might be somewhere inside there but we are going to do a full tear down and jump back on that!
I also found this O-ring inside the filter housing which is somewhat concerning seeing that the transmission did give slippage, it doesn't necesarily mean the clutch is worn out. It might mean it's getting a loss of oil pressure!
What A Machine, Right?
Oh damn these things are something!
Look at that differential inside it! Thick as thick can be! I tell you! This is something else! Okay but then again this thing pulls a heavy machine and that machine has a turbo on it aswell!
I drove one today and I am thoroughly impressed with it! It is meant for heavy long hauls with a trunk full of bags and a bunch of kids inside the vehicle! YEAHP it's a family vehicle but I am impressed!
I have to add that a bearing or three also decided to give in and we shall be replacing those alone with a clean filter and a new seal kit! We will also do a cleaning on the valve body.
Tearing it down and rinsing it out nicely! We don't want these bloaks to be left on the side of the road when hitting the long roads now do we?

it is quite a beast of a machine. I'll tackle any sort of problem with a engine no probs but gearboxes ain't my thing but glad you love it.
