My First Subaru Transmission (Teardown!)

Well Hello There Fellow Technicians And Hivers!

The Ugly Beast!

Now this is something I fancy! Mind you I should not call it ugly! But damn is this an ugly transmission!

The idea of it is just wonky! BUT! This is straight out of a Subaru!

Can you believe that I have waited a solid 5 years before I could even work on something like this! Not for lack of trying but for lack of ever getting one!

OH damn I don't even know where to start tearing this thing down!

The Backwards Idea!

In truth this is something I do not fancy at all!

The valve body is situated at the top of the transmission!

What whack crap is that? I mean seriously? If that thing gives problems you have to pull out the entire transmission just to get to that thing? NAH no way! No way in hell!

I suppose yes way! Yes way in hell!

Anyways it's nice seeing different ideas actually!

Laughs! It does sort of look like something that has its brain removed right?

I mean it looks a little weird to be honest! But it still baffles me as to why they would do it in this manner! I suppose not for me to question!

Well we got that delicate thing out of there and now for the rest!

I seriously thought it would be somewhere here though!

Seems to be just a filter!

One thing that strikes some worry in me is the fact of how clean the oil is! Immensely! It might be hard to see what the matter is in this one!

I almost made a big mistake!

This front cover of the oil pump is a little soft so to speak!

Not as soft as it is thin though but wedging it too much on the one side can really cause a crack in the casing if you're not wide eyed on what exactly you're doing!

Glad I didn't break it though!

Ahhhh Now for that nice nice CVT stuff!

Honestly I have no idea why the hell Subaru would make a vehicle and fit a CVT into it? I mean what whack stuff is that!

How can these things handle torque? Like just how!

I should stop complaining and start pulling this thing out right! Laughs!

The Problem!

Well we found the problem!

It would seem the owner brought it in as soon as he heard trouble brewing! Literally!

One of the bearings on the CVT stacks started collapsing! So that means everything started floating!

It really did some damage there to the casings as well! Not exactly something you want!

Now we do think that this might be a dealership claim, so this might not be too bad for the client, however if not the client is going to pay a hefty buck! Yeahp!

That casing can not be cheap since I don't think it is something that generally always fails! Either way we will see what happens!

Yeah! That does not at all look good! Not at all!

At the very least the owner had some braincells not to drive the vehicle until the wheels stopped turning! That is a bonus! It really saved up some parts on this one! It could have been much much worse!

Yeah it looks like a hotmess!

It is of sorts BUT atleast we know what's going on there and besides! No need to even clean up!

Just a quick rearrangement of things for the assessor and then we can get some pictures! To get that job pushed through with some convincing!

Ahh this is a lovely one!
