My Husband's Girlfriend

“It has been three months since I gave birth to Destiny, I think we should look for a house help, because the stress is telling on me,” I told my husband.
“No problem, that's a nice idea” responded. “In that case, I will talk to someone about it” he added as he bid me farewell to work.
“I love you, honey. Please take good care of Destiny”, he kissed me and walked out the door into his car and zoomed off.

Three days later, the gate man brought a brown envelope to me. I opened it, and it was an application letter. I informed my husband and he told me to interview the applicant. At the end of the interview, I was okay with her, at least she was neat, she could express herself in good and simple English, and above all, she could cook delicious meals. This was an added advantage because, as a nursing mother, cooking sometimes can be stressful.

In a short while, our house help was already used to the house, she was very friendly. I entrusted her with our baby most of the time, and she never showed any shortcomings. My husband also liked her and said that he was okay with her.

I resumed my bank work, and I got lots of help from Mary, our housekeeper. One fateful morning, I was preparing to work; my husband had recently been working from home, so most times I had nothing to be scared about Mary’s presence in the house. Mary was cleaning the sitting room when she took my husband's phone and unlocked it.
“Did you just unlock that phone”? I asked
“No ma'am”, the phone was not locked, I took it to keep it well”, she responded.
“Are you sure”? I asked again, in case my eyes were playing tricks on me.
“I swear, ma'am, I can't unlock Oga’s phone”, she said, already kneeling.

To be sure of what I saw, I decided to set a trap for her to know if she truly knows how to unlock my husband’s phone.

One week later, I sent her to get things for me in the living room. I noticed that my husband's phone was on the table at the centre of the living room. I was in the kitchen, so I followed her behind and eavesdropped through the doorknob. She took the phone and unlocked it, then dropped it back. I was in total shock because I don't even know the password to my husband's phone.

I told my husband everything that happened, but he doubted it and said that it was a false accusation. From that day, I began to suspect my husband and the house help. So to have facts to confront them, I paid a tech guy in my street to clone my husband's phone so I could access his chat. He did and everything went on fine.

From the WhatsApp chat, I discovered that my husband has been having affairs with his house help. Not only this, my house help has been my husband's girlfriend. I almost fainted, the blood level rose, my heart beat faster, I couldn't walk, my legs became feeble.

I thought of what to do, so I liaised with the gate man to threaten my house help to confess, he did, and everything worked out well.

“Ma'am I am very sorry” she said, “I didn't come to your house to cause any harm”
“But you've caused the harm already na, don't you know”?
“I am very sorry, ma'am”, she sobs, kneeling and begging for forgiveness.
“Tell me, how did you hear about the job?”
“Oga told me to come and apply ma'am”
“How long have you been dating him”
“Since last year”
“And you had the mind to come to his house to stay as house help, sharing my husband with you” she interrupted. “So what you have to do is to go inside the house and pack all your belongings and get out of this place, if not I'll arrest you”

She stood up and ran inside the house, took her bags and left immediately. In the evening, when my husband arrived, after he heard all that had happened, he became very furious with me and threatened to throw me out of the house with my baby.

At the end, she sent us out, and I had to travel to Ibadan, where my family lives and start a life.

Wow... incredible, it's like an unexpected twist in a novel. You can't trust anyone, not even the maid.
That reminds me of a movie, except instead of a maid, it was a secretary.

You have a talent for this.

Wow… this really broke my heart. The way you told the story made it so easy to picture everything. I can't even begin to imagine the heartbreak, the break in trust, the shock, the pain. It’s sad how betrayal can come from both sides, from people you never imagined would hurt you. You wrote it with so much honesty, and I could feel every bit of it. I hope you found peace and strength after everything.
