Loving for the Long Haul: What 12 Years Has Shown Me About Us!

I recall the first day, month, and year of our relationship. Indeed, days pass rapidly.

My boyfriend and I celebrated our anniversary on April 29th of this year.

Our lives have not been easy, and we have encountered so many challenges that we have never understood how we survived them all.

It seems like a lifetime and the blink of an eye. When we initially fell in love, it was the kind of love that starts with sparks—full of butterflies, long texts, and boundless excitement. It was youthful, enthusiastic, and full of exploration.

Love, like life, is essentially dynamic. It expands, gets deeper, and changes. Our affection changed over time. It became deeper, steadier, and quieter. We stayed together and saw each other at our best and worst, revealing our strengths and weaknesses. Every day, we decided to choose each other.

We went from making late-night phone calls to spending tranquil hours on the couch, from honoring important events to comforting one another after pain and loss. We built memories and a foundation of mutual respect, trust, and goals.

We now have a love that endures, listens, and forgives—genuine affection that does not necessitate elaborate shows. It's in the tiny things, like how we encourage one another, laugh at the same silly jokes, and find comfort in each other's presence.

After twelve years, I can confidently say that love grows rather than endures. I am confident our love will strengthen as we travel this route together.

Although it isn't always easy, it's worth it.
