The Spiral Labyrinth in Haskell Gardens

The Spiral Labyrinth in Haskell Gardens

Today I will share a few shots at Haskell Gardens here in New Bedford, but a different portion of them which I have not shared before, but first a little bit about the gardens

For over 30 years, lifelong New Bedford resident Allen C. Haskell cared for this property as a successful nursery. Haskell was so known for his horticultural talents that celebrities like Martha Stewart and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis were among his fans. After Haskell’s passing, The Trustees saved the property in 2012 to protect this unique urban garden from development.

Today, the Allen C. Haskell Public Gardens feature six acres of carefully designed gardens, greenhouses, and one of the oldest houses in New Bedford, all arranged around a wide green common space — perfect for a sunlit picnic or to explore with a camera which is what I do :)

Now this area of the gardens is called the Spiral Labyrinth, and I kind of hope it is new or I am embarrased to say even though I have walked past the entrance to this area many a time, I had not noticed the sign or the labyrinth garden before.

I noticed this display the last time I was there and snalled a shot thinking it ws so cool

Then i looked over behind them and saw this patch and noticed something in the grass and thought i should check this out

I found a path to walk in there and saw the spiral laid out in the grass

this is part of the path heading into the centre also in a spiral shape, some parts with stepping stones

and some just a clear grassy pathway

And this is the sign that is either new or I am not as observant as I think I am :)

and a wider shot to show the area where the spiral is

And that’s all folks

It looks like a reserved garden which is well preserved as well. Thanks for these beautiful photos.

Hello!
How lucky we are to receive this tour from you!
I'm glad you've rediscovered peculiarities you hadn't seen before and are showing them to us!
Fantastic that the place has been preserved as a public space, by the way!

Looks like a great place for a stroll. Isn't it funny how we can walk by something over and over and just not notice it? The sign is quite possibly new, but even if not you can rest assured that you aren't the only one lol

That's really cool. It makes a lot of sense to have a garden like that with areas they can let grow wild and then the spiral cut sections in the middle!

What a pretty place. I've been places like that and completely missed similar items that were obvious to everyone else. You're not a alone. They did a great job maintaining that place, I think Haskell would be proud to see his project today!
