Some shots from a visit to Buttonwood Park Zoo

Good Morning and have a good day

Today I will share a few shots from a visit to Buttonwood Park Zoo here in New Bedford
The Buttonwood Park Zoo, located in New Bedford, Massachusetts, is a zoo located in the center of Buttonwood Park. It was opened in 1894, it is the third-oldest zoo in New England and the 12th-oldest zoo in the United States. it covers about 7 acres (2.8 ha) so isnt that big nut is still a charmign zoo, the zoo is owned and operated by the City of New Bedford, with the support of the Buttonwood Park Zoological Society. It is located on part of the Buttonwood Park Historic District, and federally designated on the National Register of Historic Places.

The zoo is home to more 250 different animals made up of more than 80 different species of animals, including many that are rare and endangered.
On my visits there i have spokent o a few of the staff and i got the impression they truly care for and look after all the animals so even though it is small and I wish the animals had more space I am glad they are well cared for

Starting with a shot of one of the horses

Suffolk draft horses declined in numbers after World War II and came close to global extinction in the 1950s. It was only through the efforts of a few breeders that the Suffolk survived. Today there are about 600 Suffolk horses in the United States and about 200 in England

Next up we have a red crowned crane

Due to loss and degradation of wetlands in its breeding and wintering grounds, principally for conversion to agriculture, but also aquaculture, industrial and economic development. Pollution, environmental contamination, invasive species, disease outbreak at feeding stations, and loss of habitat due to climate change has affect red-crowned crane populations

and the good news for this post Ii general black bear populations are increasing, but they continue to be threatened in certain areas by habitat destruction, poaching and motor vehicle accidents.

And that’s all folks

Awe, the black bear is so cute! I remember when we were kids people used to drive to the dump near a cabin we would rent and watch the bears eat the garbage. :P

Thats so cool always better to see them in the natural environment rather than caged, of course from a safe distance

Black bears are alive and well in Vermont. There is a mama and 2 cubs living in our neighborhood. People see them occasionally. And of course, there is always someone who forgets and leaves their trash outside. Bad for bears and bears are such messy eaters haha spreads the trash all over.

Its not the size that matters its what there is to see and experience. It appears they take pretty good care of the animals. The bison looks well taken care of as well as the other animals you have shown us. Nice shot of the black bear cool to see them on two. Take care :)
