Mono Monday Unitarian Memorial church Fairhaven MA

Mono Monday Unitarian Memorial church Fairhaven MA

Good Morning
Staying with my habit of sharing Mono shots on a Monday

In a couple of recent posts I have share soem shots of a walk I took in Fairhaven recently, and this post continues with shots from that walk, I did say I would share posts with more shots of each of the buildings and I thought some of the details onthe UNitarian Memorial Church in Fairhaven MA, would work well in a mono post and here we are.

the ornate details in the walls of the church wre so cool to see

A little bit about the Church
The Unitarian Memorial Church in Fairhaven Massachusetts was built, financed and donated to the Unitarians in 1904 by Henry H. Rogers in memory of his mother, Mary Eldredge Huttleston. The architects Brigham, Coveney and Bisbee of Boston designed this church in the 15th century Gothic perpendicular style.

The Unitarian Memorial Church is one hundred fourteen feet in height, one hundred feet long in body and fifty-three feet wide. The nave is thirty-two feet wide and seventy-one feet long. The main aisle is sixty-two feet long and six feet wide.

The church, parish house and former parsonage (now Harrop Center) of the Unitarian Society are so placed as to form three sides of a quadrangle, set among well-kept lawns and shrubbery.

Granite (locally quarried) with Indiana limestone decorative carvings dominate the exterior while marble and limestone carvings dominate the interior. All stonework artistry was created by forty-five Italian craftsmen brought to Fairhaven by Rogers.

it has eleven (11) bells in the church tower weighing 14,000 lbs. They are a D chime which was automated in 1970, eliminating the need to climb 150 stairs to play by hand.

I love gothic style churches, and interesting that it was built so recently and yet embraced the gothic look. What a beautiful structure with intricate carvings, it was a true labor of love. Great shots you got there, and fits perfectly in monochrome.

How's the rebuild coming along? I hope no pieces have absconded on you. Shoulder any better?

Yeah it looks a lot older doesnt it, built inthe old style and done so well

Shoulder is feeling a bit better today have some more range of movment before the pain kicks in

As for the rebuild i have put that on hold, finishing the set I am working on now the train station, then may do the train and then will decide about the broken kit

my wife is tellign me just to order a new one as building it from scratch without the pieces organized as they were when I first built it will be a nightmare, plus who knows it I lost any pieces, I am very tempted to take her advice and then use thie bits as spare parts for future builds

I do understand that on the build. It takes much longer to put together when it's not as organized. I do it all the time, and it probably takes four times longer than it should. That's assuming no pieces are missing...

I hope the shoulder keeps improving, shoulder pain really sucks. I remember during officer's basic training I had impingement syndrome in my left shoulder. Carrying around an M-16 all day became so painful it felt like a knife in the back of my shoulder.

Let me know what you decide on the build, having spare parts around is always a huge plus. I have a couple bins full of them!

I took a look at the bits yesterday and decided some day I may try and rebuild it, or seperate it out and organize for spare parts but i decided since my wife said get a new one why not and ordered it lOL

Spendign 12 years in the military I can relate how after a while an M16 gets heavy
