Millicent library Fairhaven MA
Millicent library Fairhaven MA
Todays post is in a way a follow on from yesterdays post where i shared a Mono shot of the Milicent LIbrary in Fairhaven along with some other Mono shots, plus in a previous Wednesday walk post i shared some shots of the cool buildings in this area of Fairhaven and said I would do more post but had not got around to it till now
It reminded me I had not shared a post just on the LIbrary and so here it is
The Millicent library which was donated to the town by the family of Millicent Gifford Rogers, the youngest daughter of Abbie Gifford and wealthy industrialist Henry Huttleston Rogers. Young Millicent had died of heart failure in 1890 when she was barely seventeen years old. The library was dedicated on January 30, 1893. It was designed by Charles Brigham in the Richardsonian Romanesque style, and it really has style the libraries back in my home town where I grew up were sur enot as stylish as this, I would imagine its pretty impressive inside as well but I havent gone in yet.
ITs sad the story of MIllicent passign so young, but what a tribute to her with this beautiful building

the intricate work and cool details make this library really stand out, although i hope in winter they put snow melt on those stairs they could be real slippery and dangerous if one is not careful

We have a library branch near where I live that reminds me a lot of this building. Maybe not quite as many curves, but it's still that old style since it was built over 100 years ago.

indeed a similar era and such style to it
Gorgeous library and lovely tribute. All the little towns in Vermont have a free public library but most are quite modest. But fun that they have such a commitment to free libraries here

I think its greta when cities embrace free libraries
