Harbor walk and its views

New Bedford has two Hurricane barrier walls built in the 60s to protect some of the city, well the parts of the city that have bene worst hit by Hurricanes before then I presume, and on top of them the city in 2015 built a walking path on top of the Harbor section of hurricane barrier wall and its a nice spot for walking, well both the harbor walk and the other walkway they built on the hurricane barrier wall called the cover walk built in 2017 are nice spots to walk, but for early morning walks I prefer the harbor walk, which is what I will share photos of today

The New Bedford Harbor Walk sits atop the New Bedford Hurricane Barrier on East Rodney French Boulevard. The hurricane barrier is said to be the longest in the world, it was built in the 1960s

The Harbor Walk begins next to the East Rodney French Boulevard boat ramp, stretching about three-quarters of a mile to its northern end at Gifford Street. Here, the harbor walk extends along the inside of the hurricane barrier past Palmers Island. At night, the walkway is lined with more than 160 light fixtures, so this is a nice spot for a stroll in the evening, or as I do in the early morning

The morning i took these shots, I had been doing some light painting while it was still dark and when I packed up the lights I decided to take a stroll along the harbor walk, going up on to it on this path in the first shot

Actually these shots may be from a couple of different walks there either that or not in order as I took them, as it looks a lot lighter in the first shot

here i am up on the walk way, I went with a painterly style edit with this one

I have a feeling if I lived near here I would be spending a lot of time in this area. It just seems really friendly with the nice walking paths and wide open spaces.

It really does have some nice spots, nd i find most places I go safe, if you believed people online inthe town pages its a hell hole, but I think its just those who want to be negative and the most active

That does seem to be the case with a lot of those sites. I am actually going to write a post about that maybe next week.

Hello, dear friend @tattoodjay, how are you?

What a cozy place, my dear friend. It must be truly beautiful to walk there.

The photographs, as always, are very beautiful.

Have a beautiful morning.

Hearing it’s lined with more than 160 lights explains why the harbor walk fits your early starts. It sounds like the perfect cool down after some light painting, and bright enough that even my pre coffee shuffle would stay on track. That osprey nest on the pole is a sweet bonus. Ever caught them from there with the big lens?

IT is a great spot for early morning or late evening walks, I have got shots of the Osprey, but not this year, my shoulder is doing better but I dont want to stress it with the big lens

Glad your shoulder’s improving. Maybe try a lighter telephoto like a 70 to 300 and lean on the railing for support, then crop a bit after. The ospreys might still do flybys at dawn, so a quick test walk could be enough. Would a small monopod or a comfy sling make it easier for now?

I do have a 50-400mm Lens I should take that and visit the Osprey

Nice, that 50-400 is perfect for the osprey. If the shoulder feels iffy, use a monopod or lean on the railing, and try 1/1000 or faster with burst for flights. Are they active there right now?

Yeah I do use my monopod when I go birding, not sure if they are active, i may well have missed them this season they leave at the end of summer often

Man is there anything better than a walk by the ocean and the colours of the sunset reflecting off the water?

My weekly morning walk looks like clouds and no ocean but fresh and cool.

Good morning, Mr. @tattoodjay

It's great that the city has these hurricane barriers; they are truly impressive structures.

What a beautiful place to start the morning with a walk.

Excellent shots.
