American star and others at the port

Good Morning and have a great day

today I will share a few shots from a morning walk at the port here in New Bedford, and mostly when I share shots from port walk I am focusing on Commercial fishing boats, but today I will start with a few shots of the cruise ship the American star

The American Star is a coastal passenger cruise ship built in 2007 by Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Salisbury, Maryland, USA, and currently sailing under the flag of the United States

It is operated by American Cruise Lines Inc. and is part of the Independence class of ships, sharing a similar design with sister vessels like the American Spirit and American Glory.
The ship has a gross tonnage of 1,973 gt, a length of 66 meters (217 feet), and a beam of 13 meters (43 feet).
It features 4 passenger decks, with 3 decks containing cabins, and can accommodate up to 100 guests in 47 staterooms, including suites, balcony, oceanview, and single cabins.
The ship was last refurbished in 2017

As of September 25, 2025, the American Star is scheduled to operate a 7-day "New England Islands" cruise departing from Providence, Rhode Island, with stops in New Bedford, Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, Block Island, Newport, and Bristol before returning to Providence.

ITs a cruise I would happily try, but my wife is not a fan of being on ships and would never want to do it

as you can see it is not a big ship like the mammoth ones you see doing cruises in parts of the world, but i have spoken to a couple of people who have done the cruises from here and they enjoyed it

Ah, no way. I have never been on a cruise, but I think if I were to go on one I would want my first one to be one of these small ships that stick to the coast or just travel on the rivers.

That is a cool cruise liner, much smaller and more intimate than your typical Caribbean cruises. That might be a lot of fun, although the smaller ship would make turbulent weather a little less fun sea sickness wise. But if your wife isn't interested it's not going to happen anyway!

Great shots of the ship and fishing boats, I like the nice gently sunrise colors.

How are you feeling? Any better?

Oh, you have made my inner child happy with the photographs in your post. As a child I dreamed of sailing, sailing the seas, adventuring 🥰

I'm at the stage in my life when a big giant cruise ship is about as apealing as a root canal with no anesthetic. A smaller more intimate and less crowded option sounds like a lovely way to cruise. Thanks for sharing the details on the American Star. I had no idea small ocean cruisers existed. When I think about smaller cruise ships I think of the river cruisers I've had my eye on for a few years now. Nice to know there are ocean options as well.
