Wednesday Walk along the Neva river embankment
It had been a hectic day, I had to go on business to a few different places. It seemed sensible to get home as soon as possible to get rest, but the evening was so beautiful that I found the energy to take a short walk. Many other city dwellers were also inspired by the beautiful spring weather, and went for a walk. The Neva embankment was crowded.
I chose the Leitenant Schmidt embankment for my walk. This section of the Neva river embankment is located downstream of the last bridge over the Neva - further down the river flows into the Gulf of Finland. This part of the embankment is a large berth for ships travelling from the Gulf of Finland to Lake Ladoga. Full-fledged navigation has not started yet, so there are not very many ships yet.
The far part of the quay has two tiers. On the upper tier there is a boulevard, and on the lower tier you can walk along the water. At the end of the embankment there is an icebreaker-museum permanently parked. Silhouettes of harbour cranes can be seen behind it. At the beginning of the lower terrace of the embankment, the sailing training vessel ‘Young Baltiets’ is moored.
We are having the usual spring weather, with daytime temperatures between +10 and +15. The sun is often shining, but rainy days do occur. This year spring is early and warm, a few days ago the thermometer was above +25, which is an absolute record for the whole period of observations. In my memory, there have been springs when snow came at the end of April and it was possible to ski, but we have not had summer beach weather yet.
The temperature swings are perceived a bit odd. On the one hand, it's nice to be able to leave the house in a light t-shirt and sandals. But on the other hand, the body doesn't have time to readjust and the brain doesn't trust the sudden gift of weather. This time my brain convinced me to bring a warm jumper and woollen socks, so I did walk in light summer clothes, but carried warm clothes in my backpack all day that day. But now the weather was back to its climatic norm.
I walked along the Leitenant Schmidt embankment and then walked some more. I crossed the Blagoveshchensky Bridge. I walk across this bridge quite often, and quite often I photograph the views from this bridge. Some time ago I published a post with winter sunsets photographed from this bridge. But this time I was not looking towards the sunset, but forward and upwards - at the light clouds and passing seagulls.
