Wednesday Walk across Liteiny Bridge and through the Summer Garden

This spring evening was quiet and warm. If, of course, you consider +5℃ to be warm - but for March such weather is considered very good indeed. Spring is early this year, we have warm weather, with little snow and ice left. Temperatures just above zero can vary a lot in perception, for example, wind strength is very influential, and a lot depends on the humidity. I didn't have a walk in my plans for this evening, I was going to go down to the metro, but then I felt sorry to miss the beautiful sunset and decided to take a little walk.

I crossed Liteiny Bridge and headed along the embankment of the Neva River towards the Summer Garden. The sun was sinking into the clouds on the horizon and the sunset was burning over the river. Spring evenings are long, it's light enough after sunset, and I had enough time for a leisurely stroll. The Vyborg side was behind me, I was moving towards the historical centre of the city. The Foundry Bridge was built in the late 19th century on the place of an old crossing and an old plank bridge. The lattice of the bridge is decorated with highly artistic castings, mermaids and plant ornaments grouped around the city's coat of arms.

On this weekday, there were not many people walking along the embankments and gardens. Soon the tourist season will start and there will be a lot more people walking around. Every day there are more and more cyclists and scooters on the streets. There wasn't much snow this year and some cyclists didn't close the season, they rode all winter. But most cyclists prefer to take a break for the winter. Snow and ice are only part of the problem. To protect against ice, streets are sprinkled with special technical salt and reagents, a mixture that causes serious damage to bicycle parts and mechanisms.

I walked along the embankment of the Neva River to the Summer Garden. The Summer Garden is located on an island between the Neva, Fontanka, Moika and Lebyazhaya Kanavka. It is a historical garden, it was arranged in the early XVIII century next to the small Summer Palace of the Emperor. It is a garden with a regular layout, marble statues and fountains. The fountains were lost in the 18th century after a severe flood, but were restored during restoration work. In winter the fountains do not work and the statues are hidden in protective wooden covers.

There is one flowerbed in the Summer Garden near the building of economic services, which the garden workers look after particularly carefully. In early spring snowdrops bloom on this flowerbed. I approached this flowerbed and saw white buds. I was not able to get closer and take a close-up photo of them, as the free access to this flowerbed is still closed, but I was able to admire the white snowdrops from behind the fence.
