You know you are watching an old movie when people are smoking in restaurants and there are payphones on the sidewalks.

It is amazing how much progress was made in 40 years. This is why younger people really do not understand technological progress and the pace.

The world is completely different compared to the mid 1980s.

100 percent. They don't understand.
They think in such short time horizons.
Thinking 1 month / 1 year is a long time etc...

We are just entering the next big change and they act like nothing is changing.

Few realize how much of a change there was between 1980 and 2000. The progress makes the time from 2000-2020 look minor.

You are right, we are in the next 20 year cycle where major changes are felt by society. Generative AI is just the starting point.

By 2040, we will not recognize 2020.

True, allthough I am not so sure the people are better off now... Life was quite a lot simpler back then.

Look at the global stats. Child morality rates...down. Those living in extreme povery...down. People killed in war....down.

So when you look at the basics, people are much better off than 40 years ago.

You're right and some situations are even funny and make us feel nostalgic.

I even heard a song talking about CDs and letters... Nowadays it's very rare for someone to write a letter to someone else.

When was the last time you used a phone booth and made a call on a pay phone?

@taskmaster4450le, I'm not going to lie. It's been a long time, a really long time.
I think the last time was about 20 years ago when I was still calling a girl I was dating hahaha...

Right?! We were watching the first Die Hard movie last night. John McClaine lit up a cigarette in the airport when he got of the plane. That was released in 1988.
