The key to the automated economy is not the grand slam homeruns. Since the hardest part is on the front end (development) things can be slow. However, once in place, whatever is earned is without human effort (other than perhaps maintenance).

Rinse and repeat. It simply becomes a numbers game. Want a larger economy, automate more of it through expansion of services.
