Premium Members: How To Post Videos In Top Line Threads

Anyone who has a Leo Premium membership can not post videos in top line threads meaning they will appear without people having to click to the second layer.

This was something that previously was reserved for high reputation authors. Links being blocked at the top line prevents people from spamming the threads feed. A casualty of that means that things such as YouTube videos and Spotify previews cannot be posted.

That was until now. It is now possible for any Premium member to post videos at the top layer.

In this article we will go through how to do it.

Before getting to that, why it is not possible. Also, why is this only open to Leo Premium members?

The answer lies in the embed feature. Without Premium, the is a character restriction of 240. This does not work for embedding. However, with the switch to 1,000, this is now possible.

You Tube

This starts with grabbing a YouTube video.

We want to right click on it and copy the embed code.

Once we have the code, we open threads and paste it in there.

As we can see, this does not line up properly. For that reason, we need to alter the settings. I find that switching to 700/350 works well for desktop.

We then submit the thread.

And presto, the thread is posted with the video in it.

Spotify

We open up Spotify and choose a song. The three dots at the bottom, click then hit the share. Here we get the embed track.

This pops up and we click "copy".

We then paste the code into threads as such.

Hit thread and this is what we get.

Embed Videos From Many Different Sites

Because of the embed feature, we can post videos right into the top line threads from many different sites. The only requirement is they provide the embed code.

Here is one from CNBC about Bitcoin. Again, the width was adjusted to 700 to fit in the frame better.

How about some 3Speak?

ESPN?

The Evolution of Threads

We can now embed video content from many different sources. The key is whether the site where the video is housed has the embed code available. If so, it is possible to post it in threads.

Also, with YouTube, there is a feature that allows the channel to determine if it will allow viewing from outside websites. Be sure to check when you embed it, If not, you will get a message that tells you it can only be viewed through YouTube.

Video content adds a ton to interaction, time on site, and valuation. In my research of industries, video content is worth exponentially more than video games and audio, combined. The valuation for companies that are into video is enormous.

Leo is entering this. Here is a way we can be more like traditional social media platforms with video content embedded into our threads.

One thing we might need to do is to play with the width and length settings so things appear properly on mobile. This is something the community can toy with and pass around.

Either way, this is a big step forward in my opinion. Video is something that we want need posted on here, even if embedded from other sites.

Something that I stumbled upon. It is something that anyone with premium can use.

So it helps to bring streaming and video to the platform in a much bigger way.

If I am right this will make it possible to embed my livestream on twitch? That would be a freaking gamechanger. I will try that on Tuesday.

If there is am embed code with your livestream, I dont see why not. If that is the case, we need to get that shared out.

But you could be right, there could be the ability to stream Twitch right into threads.

It's very cool that this feature is available now. Having videos on top-level threads will at least offer a variety of content.

I did see one non-premium being able to embed a vid on his main thread.

Yeah I wonder if anyone can do it. LOL.

I tried in the past, before the expansion, and it was cut off. There might be a glitch that they are allowing everyone to have expanded character counts without realizing it.

Or it might have been an embed that was under 240 (not likely though).

Yes, that might be the case as he only added the word "test" so it might have been within the 240 character limit :)

I thought most embed code was longer than 240. I could be mistaken though. It is worth knowing if there is shorter code.

You are right about that. I just checked the embed code of the video share and it was over 240. I did my own test and it went through. It appears we can use the direct URL with a certain tweak.

Maybe they changed it and let people posting YouTube videos.

Try to post a video from another site using the URL.

Maybe try a Vimeo video. And a Spotify preview. Will they work with the URL.

Interesting... Very creative solution. Never even thought about the embed code and the character limit as being the limiting factor.

I tried it a couple months back and was blocked by the limit. Now with the limit on premium moved to 1K, plenty of room to embed stuff. Got Kick, Vimeo, and a few other sites to work.

Cant get Twitch yet.

Did you try it? How did it work?

seems to have worked just fine! I was using the link rather than the embed code. You solved my biggest issue, Task! 3speak link worked on my personal page but didn’t show up on Latest, but I’m less concerned about that cause now I can do my big music outreach post!!!

That is good. It does open up the door to many other possibilities.

Time to get more data on Leo.
