Trucco Fort: My Visit to Spanish Heritage in Ternate

Hello everyone, this time I visited Ternate
In the heart of Sangaji village in North Ternate, precisely in Ternate in North Maluku, Indonesia,

lies Fort Trucco, a testament to the rich and eventful history of the region. This was founded in 1522, until this fort is not only a relic of the past, but also a monument to the centuries-old interaction between local kingdoms, European powers, to the global spice trade that shaped the fate of the Maluku Islands. This heritage is also a silent witness. This is My main purpose of visiting here is to explore the history, architecture, to the eternal legacy of Trucco Fort and highlight the importance of this Spanish fort in Indonesia.

Historically, Ternate is known as the Spice Islands, because it was the only source of nutmeg and cloves at that time, spices that were worth more than gold in Europe during the Age of Discovery, but the enormous value caused the entry of European countries such as Portugal, the Netherlands, and Spain, where they competed to control the profitable spice trade. With this background, the Spanish established their presence along the spice trade route and built Fort Trucco as a strategic means to assert their supremacy. This is the history that I know, which caused me to visit here because of the curiosity that came to my mind

This is the face of the Trucco Fortress

The Trucco Fortress was built in 1522, the fort reflects the military architecture of the time and was designed to withstand sieges and provide visibility. The construction of the fort was part of Spain's strategy to strengthen its position in the Maluku Islands in the face of competition from European countries at that time, until the design and construction of this fort have stood the test of time and provide insight into military technology in the 16th century

In this pamphlet I read a lot of history about the Trucco fort, you can see for yourself the photos displayed there as in the photo above and also below this

Below you can see the entrance to the fort Talukko,

Fort Trucco is more than just an old fort. It is a bridge to the past, offering a window into the dynamics of history that have shaped Maluku and the world. Its walls tell stories of ambition, conflict and resilience, and remind us of the enduring spirit of humanity. By exploring and preserving places like Fort Trucco, we preserve history and ensure that future generations can learn and be inspired by the complexities of our shared past.

Thank you all...
